A VANS SHOES Film (with Canon Lenses )

[Eric Koretz]

Recently shot a film/commercial for Vans Shoes using just Canon DSLR zooms (and one 500mm prime).
We needed to be lightweight and mobile and to change lenses quickly with minimal crew.
I was very impressed with the lenses on the Epic. Blog post and video if anyone is interested:

Great blog post. I've shot my scarlet with a very similar set up many times (minus the luxury of wireless follow focus).

[Mario Contini]

What a sweet project eric! I'm wearing a Vans t shirt right now and a pair of Vans shoes my grandmother's caretaker found at a garage sale for me! Been sporting Vans all my life.

Epic and canon zooms make a great travel doc setup.. you're literally working out of a backpack! Nice when pulling your own focus too but looks like your were pretty kitted out.

[Eric Koretz]

Thanks Mario. I've used this setup before where I have the camera on all day and never take it off except for lunch (or I leave it on and use my Epic to rest my lunch on). Great for Doc style shooting or run and gun anything.

Thanks for the links! Looks like a really great project and from what I've seen of Eliot's previous work, entirely appropriate/sympathetic to the kind of stories he tells. It's remarkable how emotional the whole piece is, though I may be biased having skated many of their shoes to destruction...

Any scoop on how much those lights are likely to cost?

Cheers
Mondo

Very cool project Eric. To have the freedom to do your thing, and with the minimal amount of equipment = my dream job I love that you pulled back from the gloss just enough, to make it about the story. A perfect approach for a company that does not wave the brand as a flag.

[Jason Diamond]

Beautiful work Eric. The piece speaks volumes about the company and my own experiences with them as a brand growing up.

kudos!

[Peter.G]

Did you shoot 5k or ???

Ahh the HVX...used to use that all the time. It should be in a museum somewhere under a glass case. I like the commercial Mike...nice concept.

[Mike McMillin]

[William Robinette]

Fantastic!

[Jerrod Cordell]

Excellent spot! Very inspirational.

I actually got to meet Steve Van Doren, Tony Alva, and Christian Hosoi last year at a Journeys Backyard BBQ I was filming. Great people. Christian's skateboard actually flew right at my temple during the vert demo. Hah!

[Ivan G]
