  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A taste...

Come Nov. 13th you will hear more than you ever expected... then you will have to wait again (for delivery). The message will be more than you could have ever dreamed. Then the wait will be unbearable. I have to suffer the same fate as you. It is exciting beyond measure. And frustrating beyond belief. We all want it NOW. The only good news is we know what you want. So at least you will be waiting for something worthwhile... beyond your wildest dreams.

If I am wrong and let you down on what we present, you can turn away from Reduser forever. If I am right, please show patience... because you will not see what we will show you from anyone else.

Jim

Why do you think you know what we want, when it's absolutely *certain* that we don't all want the same things?

I am now comfortable in saying that the most aggressive speculation will not come close to what we will announce Nov. 13th.

Jim

Well, an aggressive speculation would be that all RED ONE owners will get a free upgrade to EPIC. I call this aggressive :)

A price cut to $10k for Epic , $5k for RED One & $1k for Scarlet would be aggressive speculation IMHO, hopefully it will be better than that  With housing & stock markets falling as much as 50% anything is possible.

The Godzillas... I pity the poor bastards... Really! I do.... Cause were gonna hold 'em by the nose and kick 'em in the ass. We're gonna go through 'em like crap through a goose. We're gonna cut out there livin' guts and we're gonna grease the treads of our grip trucks with them. And when you look over at your buddy and see his camera's guts spilled all over the floor, well, you'll know what to do... Go order a RED of some ilk... 999,887... 999,886... 999,885...

Oh, forgot to mention "And he will be proud to lead you wonderful guys anywhere, anytime... that is all..." (Raise the Red Logo flag...Cue the patton theme)

Jim, you've already delivered more than I could have ever dreamed...

So what we need is bigger dreams. I'm going backwards to move forward...

What made the Lumiere Bros. Cinematographe the most exportable imaging technology on the planet, at the time, was a camera that could then be converted on-the-spot into a projector, rolled in one. Separate units were not required. So the operator could shoot and deliver in the same day.

So I'm going with...SCARLET - recording device only, EPIC will roll RED-RAY into a modular system that will somehow allow us to shoot and deliver 2K or higher in a single upgradeable package.

So we can all become 19th-century itinerant magic lantern wielding impresarios for a new age.

If Jim is really talking about a paradigm-busting shift equal to or greater than RED ONE, it is going to be something far more interesting, more revolutionizing, than more resolution or interchangeable lens mounts on a SCARLET. Those will be givens, because we already know they can. Canon/Nikon can up these antes, as can RED, and Sony, etc. for that matter, so it has to be something else. Something that breaks the escalating pattern of offering more...

Something the "other guys" can't/won't offer us is delivery. That's something that will unlock the potential of the cameras. And the modularity of EPIC could certainly permit a complete re-think of the camera as an acquisition-only device. How cool would that be?

Here's some lame speculation:

The camera bodies are free - we pay a fraction of a cent (USD) for each frame we convert from r3d to another format. :whistling:

Aggressive price cuts would worry and disappoint me. I want things cheap but please Epic should be the no compromise, slightly over engineered, product that certain productions need.

Red one is a fantastically good product for a price. I want Epic to remove the 'for a price' question mark!!

2.5 extras stops on top of what is already promised would completely floor me (and all the users I know personally). Nothing else is really needed.

countinnn days jimm! wel i have a big sized pocket, hope this time we wil get a little big scarlet !

I am now comfortable in saying that the most aggressive speculation will not come close to what we will announce Nov. 13th. We fully expect over 1,000,000 hits on www.red.com on the 13th.

If I am wrong... look at the good side. You can finally turn off your reduser addiction.

Jim

Jim,

Does this mean 12:01 AM EST on 11/13/08 we will get the announcement??

This really must be half the fun of it!

I'm more excited for this than anything I can remember being excited about.

I need to thank Canon and Nikon for lighting a (small) fire under Jim's ass.

The fact that they released all the video features seems like it was what was needed to get interchangeable lenses on the scarlet :) I for one, was one of the people who was vocal about needing interchangeable lenses on this baby. Of course I could be wrong but I think at this point it's safe to say it will include this. My guess is probably a RED lens mount for a new line of lenses, which will be nice and suck at the same time.

Either way I can't wait for the 13th.

LOL

Jim, come on, it's time to fess up.. RED is a front for Stark Industries and you are:
http://www.imdb.com/media/rm4264137728/tt0371746
:)

I'm thinking too this could mean that the Scarlet and EPIC both use the same detachable control panels; but another possibility is that the two renders are from two different cameras: if you look more closely, Jim posted this one here and the other one there (it is the users who mixed them together), and they are not quite the same...

Just my six cents:

- Hopefully it has the form factor of a movie camera and not an SLR.
- Wireless networking built in to supply video-village with its picture
- Wireless also allows camera control / sync (4 scarlets auto-sync to create a single 4x frame!)
- Sensor is now full-sized - EPIC's is 120mm
- Built-in HD monitor
- Hot-swappable 250 Gig RAID-10 storage cards
- Easy way to add production meta-data to shots
- Instant-on
- Variable frame rate: from weekly to 300 fps
- GPS and Accelerometers transmit motion-capture data to new RED robotic SteadiCam (which can then repeat the path)
- Monitor provides a touch-sensitive menu i/f
- No matter how it's mounted, the image is always upright
- Lens is 4mm - 220mm, f1.6, and doesn't breathe when zooming
- Anamorphic option

OK, I could probably do this all day so I better stop now.

Thanks to RED, as always, for giving us 21st century stuff *in* the 21st century, and for keeping the sales hype honest.

Chris

PS: I almost forgot to ask: Can it act?
