I have been using Redundead for a while, it's such a powerful and important tool for redusers. I am just wondering if RED Technicians will develop this software a little bit more? For example if I want to recover some specific date or number's R3D only ,not necessary to recover from very beginning to the end. It will save a lot of time.
Maybe V2.0 in the future? Any possible?

Thanks

Or maybe Conrad could incorporate that into r3d Manager?
Cheers,
Harry

You would still need to start the search from the beginning of the disk. This of it this way: you have a book with chapters, but the table of contents is missing. To find chapter 14, you need to start by looking at at page 1 then sequentially go to page 2, etc. The same with the media, you'll need to look for the start of the files, which you will only run across by going byte by byte from the beginning of the drive.

I see, thanks for your explain.
By the way, there is another problem about the Red Drives. Sometimes I can't find the drives on the desktop, because the two 320G drives were damaged inside. Then it was hard to copy R3D files to external Raid. Does RED Data Manager has the function which can scan the Red Drives and figure out how much physically damage is inside the disk? If there is too much damage, we had better to ship the Red Drives back to RED to repair. I think it's important to test the drives out before we shoot any projects.

Yang, I do not know of the power condition in Beijing or where you are shooting in China. Not a good idea to connect the fw800 to the drive with power. Better to get the fw800 without power cable and power the drive with the Red supplied power adapter. Or best wait for the power station that red will be selling. Lim

Currently you can start recovering further into the drive by specifying the offset to start reading. Beyond that, to provide more control over the process, you have to scan the whole drive first so you might was well recover everything anyway rather than do it twice.

Lim, it's 220V in China. I thought plug the power cable first, then plug Fw800 is the best way. I remember someone wrote about it before. We did burn some Fw800 interfaces on the Red Drives before.

That's the right sequence. If you are having problem with Red drive so often, then it may be the way the drives are being handled or mounted. We use the ET absorber mount when we use the Red drive. This is an article that you may find recommendation of using non bus powered fw800 cable - http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=49054&page=2.

We are looking forward to Red SSD drives. Lim

Thanks Lim. I purchase one cable before, from Lemo to Esata. But it didn't work. FW800 is too slow I think.

Yang, it is not the Lemo to Esata. It is a non bus power FW800 cable ie the fw800 will not power up the drive. You need the Red power adapter to power your drive first. This is one sure way to ensure your fw800 connection will not be fried. But I guess your problem is not reading the drive but more corruption that you need redundead to help. We can explore this when I drop by Beijing the next time or when free, visit us in Shenzhen. Lim

Thanks for your explanation, Lim and welcome to come by my company when you visit Beijing. Are you based in Shenzhen? You are Korean?

About the cable from E-sata-Lemo, I do have this cable, it's just not working. So I only can use Fw800 cable to copy all the files.
check this web:

They just don't sell this cable anymore. I thought I figure out a best way to copy the footage.

Ok...never used RED UNDEAD.
NOW....I must admit I've never used redundead.....and now i have some footage with intermittent blips of red then green and blue overlaying on about half or one third of SOME of my images from a drive i offloaded a week ago...only now am i going through and coloring/transcoding footage. I've read the PDF....not very user friendly IMO....BUT, can i use REDUNDEAD for this situation? Anyone experience this? AND if so, any easy way to use REDUNDEAD bypassing terminal WHICH i have NEVER used in my life.

Thanks
