Well I have to say that every single Reduser is very lucky. Besides the fact that they all have the best camera in the world at their disposal, they also have first dibs on Epic and Scarlet.

I would love to have a Red One. I wanted a Red One when I first heard about it and thought that it was a camera made by Oakley. When I heard about the original 3K Scarlet, I flipped! So I joined Scarletuser.com and have made a lot of friends in this whole waiting game. We've complained, and bitched, and came up with ideas and these ideas helped shape the DSMC system.

I was wondering, since we have been very patient, if some of us early Scarleteers (pre-November 13th announcement) could get some kind of reward, like the future Epic-X Users. Like I said, if I could get a Red One I would. Shoot, I wish I could just throw money at you guys, but I don't have a lot of money to throw.

So here's an idea. Along with the Redusers, some of us early Scarletusers can purchase the Beta version of Scarlet. I understand you guys want to release a pristine version of Scarlet and you have Redusers who are willing to test it for you, but you might also want some testing from the prosumer's point of view. And I would definitely volunteer for that!

Call it wishful thinking, and I'm still buying a Scarlet no matter what, but I just thought it'd be a good idea and could help speed up the Beta process a little bit.

Thank you.

While I too would like to be in an early Scarlet program, given the fact that we have not actually supported RED financially, creating a program based on the hopes and aspirations of future camera owners seems illogical at best. It's much easier for someone to say they will support the company than it is for someone to pay thousands to back up their word :P

While this would be lovely, I don't think it's realistic. Not to impugn anyone who doesn't actually have Red One(I certainly don't), but those that do already have a working relationship with Red, so that is a proven supply of people with the talent, commitment, and experience necessary to give useful and constructive feedback on a beta test. I'd love to be a part of it, but it doesn't seem to be in Red's interest to take a chance on people who may not match the caliber they need for a productive beta.

I like this idea too. I would be willing to pay a $1,000-$2,000 premium to get a Tattoo Scarlet like those who are getting the EPIC-X.

wishes, dreaming, yearning, desiring, daydreaming, fantasizing, etc...

But for those of us that have already pledged to spend $10,000+, when the Scarlet is finally released, to support RED.

Getting to be a part of RED's BETA program is half the fun of getting a camera from them. :cheers2:

Here's the thing. And - before I start - let me just make very clear that right now I am a part of the same group of Scarlet users I'm gonna talk about. So, basically, I don't think there's any shot of this happening. The reason there is a "Tattoo" beta test round for former One, now Epic users is that these are working professionals at pretty high levels, and they have the day to day productions, commitments and experiences to really put a camera through its paces. This will give RED tons of empirical data, requests, usability comments, etc. that are incredibly worthwhile. Comparatively, we (students, lo/no budget indi-filmmakers, soccer moms, etc.) are not worthwhile to RED in the same development kind of way. Now let me be *very* clear. I'm not calling anyone, least of all myself, worthless. I'm just saying, this second, Scarlet focused group is never going to have the volume of work to support the testing data that RED needs to make this program succeed. So, cool as it probably would be to be involved, I don't think it's gonna happen. I think we just have to deal with a few more months of it'll happen when it happens.
Peace,

-Harry

this is a business guys.. so hard to get it?

Correct-a-mundo!!! This happens with every camera, the only difference is usually the camera company gives the beta testers the cameras in secret, then when it is time to release the cameras, the beta testers are allowed to release their footage and test results.

The feedback these people will provide will make all of our cameras better. It will be worth the wait. Even if Red wasn't doing a trade in program, these people would still be the first EPIC customers. :driving:

Well I know that the Redusers can put the Scarlets through a lot of vigorous tests, and I'm not saying I should get Scarlet before them. Not at all. They jumped into this program without knowing exactly how good this company would be and I have the utmost respect to all of those who did. Buuuut, I'm just saying it'd be nice for that to be an option since I know quite a few people over at Scarlet User who can put these cameras through vigorous testings of their own.

And I'm not trying to be impatient on the release of Scarlet or anything like that. I just think it'd be a really cool option and I would love to help RED out by doing my own tests of the camera. That's all.

I have a feeling that once they get EPIC right, turning it into a Scarlet will just be a process of removing features.

For that reason, there may not be a beta program at all...

I know everyone wants the same reward that the Red One owners seem to be getting, but remember that every RED is a gift to the world that should be costing much more than it does.

Listen to Ted's explanation of the 3oth announcement on the latest RedCentre podcast... http://www.fxguide.com/redcentre

I do think that users of REDUSER should get some sort of discount on the cameras. Maybe 10% off at least? I'm a poor college student with limited income. I'd do anything to have a RED camera, but the fact of the matter is...right now I can't afford to drop 10,000 on a new camera. Maybe 2-3,000, but not anything more.

I'd be up for a discount too, but that's a pretty unreasonable request... Where do you propose they get the money to do that? RED is a company, not a charity...

I will be getting a discount by getting a RED. So will you if you buy one. Anything you buy from them will be a discount because quality and price are better than any of the competition's is.

I think you'll find every Red owner, perspective owner, or curious individual is a member of RedUser!

The cameras are already discounted 80%-90% from what they could charge, we may have to be happy with that! :cheers2:

Register here and get discounts? That's too easy!

How about jumping over a lake full of starving walligators with red eyes and if you don't lose your legs you get Scarlet with a discount, $30,000 worth of medical expenses you won't have to give away.

Now that's a serious discount!

Good grief, not in reply to the last post but to beta testing:

Yes, I would like to Jim.

There is already a thread on scarletuser.com for this http://www.scarletuser.com/showthread.php?t=3713 , but while the RED One users will beta test the Epic and that may suffice for the lesser Scarlet, I think there is value in serious consideration of this, as EX/HVX users and RED users have different expectations of daily treatment and performance just as Scarlet users and Epic users will be different in tactics, throughput and abuse. Epic users are much less likely to ride skateboards with it or put it in a ziplock baggie to keep the goo off it, or to treat it like a video camera and hide it in a sweatshirt for a 2 hour interview. This feedback will be ver different from the Epic users indeed.
As said beta testers must be like any other partner, calm and collected, honest, patient, not afraid of failure on our part or theirs, and while Scarlet will have those users, they are harder for RED to wizzle out, so that makes it very complex to do. I had signed up for RED back when we got the keychain things but had to back out, so I would love to get on the early wagon this time, if RED thinks the can afford to wait any longer. It might delay the product, but if so only to make it more useable...

If you'll do anything to get a RED then get off the computer and go work and save money.

If anyone thinks posting a few suggestions on a forum somehow makes them think they "contributed" to Scarlet in a manner deserving of what you all are asking, they need a serious head check...
