  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A Red camera cannot make a film like this

This movie is so awesome, I haven't had such a good laugh in a while. You can shoot with any camera and get results like the best. Its all about the mechanics of how a Motion picture works, not specifically the tools used. You could do much worse with Panavision, Red, Sony, Panasonic, etc... Has nothing to do with the camera, I didnt even pay attention to the quality one bit. Its more about composition, editing, lighting, Color Correction, dialogue, and writing.
These are very wise words.

I just got back from a screening of Captain America. While I was aware that parts of the movie seemed a little "digitalish" (low shutter speed or some kind of rolling shutter issue), most of it was fine. I was surprised to find out they used three different film cameras (some Arri, some Panavision) and three different digital cameras (Alexa, Genesis, and the lowly Canon 5D). I'm actually kind of baffled as to why they didn't use Red; they used damn near everything else.

Good film, BTW.

I think the point is you try to pick the right camera for the right job. if there are budget constraints you use whatever you have.

If I was trying to make Birdemic, I wouldn't choose a Red camera for the job unless that was all I had access to. I COULD make a Red camera look like Birdemic, but it would be easier to just use a different camera to achieve that look. What if you're using an Epic? It's going to be much harder to blow out the highlights, and why make extra work for yourself?

This scene clinched it for me...I had a straight face watching all the other clips...but this one got me right here...

having said that, kudos to them for going out and making a film in the first place...You've got quite a few trolls around youtube who'll slag this off, but I'd like to see them pick up a camera, get a cast and crew together, organise it all, and then edit it.

The audio is what made it for me. Now imagine this with a Bollywood dance track behind it.

This stuff is sheer poetry.

OK, that scene got me too. It may not have been their actual intention, but that was some funny shit right there. Definitely more entertainment value there than in some other big scenes in movies that I've recently paid to see.
