I believe in the superiority of photography in the old films compared to modern one. From the beginnings, to the so called classics, to let's say the end of the seventies. Sublime frames - and at the same time more genuine - choices of elements in the frame (compared to the mere quality of color, simply an artifact made by the lens). The costumes too. To begin with, the average people, and all the people, no matter their status, were almost all well dressed. Now, in movies and TV, even adult characters often look like 16 years old urban idiots. I'd say probably it's worse than reality, and that's no small thing. Why?
When elegance was seen everyday, it was probably easier to reach supreme standard: all was needed was to rise that bar and add a bit more creativity.
Now, with the loud desolation that is common, it's harder to imagine something very good. Fashion designers are avery creative and some are almost geniuses, but I think their is the Everest of today, and the liks to a normal, elegant reality are lost.
Reality has lost links to good manners - I'm not talking about mere conventions and stupid trends no matter how old - authentic good manners, "immortal" style, great beauty above trends. Attorned, like we all are, by fake beauty, fake manners, planned trends. While a story has yet to begin.
... what story?
