Here we go with the new PIXELskate and RED ONE!!
If you want, you could to find us in Facebook (user:pixel filmes).

The new PIXELskater is amazing to some jobs where we need movements and we have not money....

Unfortunately, this is the most exciting news of the day!

For the heavier configurations, how is the head mounted? With the RED camera, definitely seem top heavy, but I guess with the small units on the way, that may be less of an issue.

Kim, yes you can...

About weight aprox. 40-50kg. I was trying with my weigth over the skate and without problem. You can use it with your childs!!

And about the head I don't try a o'connor but we have a vinten and without problem also...

We know the pstechnik skater but we want to build a skater more cheaper...

Looks very similar in function to the Omni-tracker, but less expensive. . . which is always a good thing. We sure love our Omni-tracker.

Nice work- I am interested in seeing some circular footage as well.

For better performance...

Note that in the picture above the rail system baseplate and the shoulder dovetail are used, removing them will both lessen the weight and lower the center of gravity.

Notice also that the battery is mounted high and rearward, which also would make the rig unnecessarily heavy and unstable. One of the best purchases I made was a "Battery Belt Clip" which is actually rarely attached to my belt. Instead I use it's extra long cord in situations like this to relocate the battery elsewhere (in fact when on a tripod my battery lives in the tripod apron). I'd just lay the battery on the ground where the cord would reach both ends of the pull. If the pull were longer then it gets attached to my belt.

Undoubtedly the picture is meant to show off the load that the dolly would support, not necessarily how it should be used.

It looks to be a good, inexpensive design, although I do question the used of acrylic plastic for the main chassis. A minor nick in the bottom could cause a major failure under load as cracks propagate in high tensile plastics easily. I think you'd be better served using a quality hardwood instead of plastic for the main chassis.

Sorry - but I have my doubts that the connection between the skater and the fluid head is strong enough for a RED One to achieve these smooth movements. For lighter cameras okay - but for RED?

Cheers
Thomas.

I shoot with RED and without problem...It's better for red because have a high weight....
