A few Questions about Matboxes for my Scarlet

The only matbox I have used is the Red Rock Micro one and I say I like it. It is a swing away type, mounting to bottom rails, which makes all the sense in the world to me. But why the clip on style mat box? How exactly does that work? This sounds like a really bad idea to me, like how really cheap Cokin plastic filter mounts would attach to a lens. What are the benefits? Any downsides other than attaching to the lens and adding weight to it and the lens mount, but that can be countered with another lens support.

Some people like the "clip on" style matte boxes for pure speed. I for one own three different matteboxes (Chrosziel, MovCam and now Bright Tangerine) and ALL of them are rod based. I do not want to put any additional strain on the lens mount of any of my cameras. I think it's also VERY EASY to bump the mattebox off the lens when it's just a clip on. I've seen it happen many times. At the cost of filters these days, why take chances on breaking them?

Further, I use the "rods" all the time for hand grips! I like having an extra place to put my hand sometimes! It's also easier to attach follow focuses, motors, and the like to your camera.

so a clip on just has a little pressure to hold it there? not a screw in thread, just a spacer? Are the spacers rubber, otherwise ya i totally understand.

you parrot many of my exactly thoughts.

is there a larger version of the red rock. something with bigger filters i mean. would be using with ziess compact primes, 114mm fronts. and something rod mounted.

i like the bright tangerine alot. how much does it run. where can i get it?
