  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A few pics of our new ... "RED PRO BATTERY MODULE [QUAD]"

Add the I/O module and the proxy module and you're ready to shoot the next installment of "The Human Centipede".

i think it would probably melt the sensor :)

here is a shot with some rough numbers. this was done with an AC tape, not a fine, precise measuring device. so your numbers may vary.

would be cool to see a side by side of a AB Battery (or VLock) vs the Quad Module to get an idea of different sizing options.

I'm still not sold on the idea of redVolts, having so many small items around on set and having to keep track of which is charged and which is not and how long they take to recharge is pushing me towards powering the camera via AB or VLock

The fact that there's no P-tap means I'll need additional batteries. Hard to believe it's not there. Sort of defeats the purpose on any shoot with a microforce, Bartech, 2nd monitor. Actually, I use one of those accessories on every shoot. Great for folks using DSMC lenses though. Perhaps the quad charger will be capable of quick charging the revolts.

This question is specifically for the EPIC.

Quad Charger VS 1 RED Brick?

How long does the Quad Charger last?

How long does 1 Red Brick last?

Does the battery power get used up quicker when shooting than standby? If so, what kind of difference? What about 300 fps over 24 fps? Does the higher frame count use more power?

Seems like I'll be hanging onto my RED bricks for a little while longer, once the RED volts jump up to 90min, we good. :)

Are the RED volts currently using lithium ion technology? Where can be expect the tech break through to get us those higher records times off these RED volts?

Red brick last conservatively two hours in theory same with quad, but just got it yesterday and not enough time to test.

Quad is hot swappable though. But they take a while to charge.

But jarred said they are going to build in some more power management so those times will prob get larger overtime.

U asked A lot of questions that I can not answer, as I am not a battery scientist. But maybe someone on this board is...

I'm with you there. This thing is huge, and has no external power output, which is the thing I miss most on the Epic body, especially considering there is only one EVF/LCD output. I don't think I've ever been this disapointed in a Red product. Can I trade my quad for a dual ? I want to get the Pro I/O module, well, if it lives up to expectations, but I fear having the quad plus the Pro I/O, how big is my tiny beautiul Epic going to become ? I've decided to order a V-lock plate to attach to the back of the Epic, I really like the Wooden camera model, I just wish someone would come out with a plate which transfers power through the module connectors, andthat would make for one less cable.

Cheers,
Damien

I highly recommend the Wooden Camera Quickback with ANton Bauer mount and Dionic HC or HCX batts. LONGER RUNTIME, SMALLER MORE COMPACT, FASTER CHARGE TIMES, and 2 P-TAP CONNECTIONS. not sure about the weight but probably the same if not lighter. I know I'll be selling my quad battery module when it comes in, unless I can trade it for a dual. Even that one I'm not sure about.

WHAT???? Dino?? You're not a battery scientist????????

I quit.

Hey Dino,

As much as I like the looks of the Quad Mod, I can't figure out how to power any of the usual aks. How are you powering remote FF and the like? I figure that if anyone has a solid method for this, it would be you.

i got mine tuesday, just did a two day overnight LMFAO music video, but went with the traditional red bricks on the cameras...well actually one camera was on steadi and powered by the sled and the other was rocking an old school r1 battery quickplate on a universal mount and held on via 19mm rods...

so i have not used the qmod ( my little nick name) on a real job yet, it does present a challenge, although those super smart camera assistants always find a way to make things work, it may not be pretty, but they always get it done.

2 hours a Red Brick ? Are your sure ? I didn't check the numbers, but I use 2 Bricks a day sometime three. I would say they last 3 maybe more ?

About the Quad Module, I can't wait to... sell mine...

Re: battery times...

I do not like to take the bricks lower than 30-40 percent. I have written extensively about this on another thread.

I wouldn't worry about Redvolt charging times because a quick-charging 4-way station is coming. But I didn't realize there were no P-Taps on it. I thought they were going to be added prior to release. I suppose the idea of a thin module for P-Taps would solve this, but loving how short the Epic is this kinda goes against that concept. Maybe they are thinking of the Pro I/O for this? I don't know how long the Pro I/O will be but both will probably make the whole thing as long as other cameras; competitive, but does feel like an gone-by opportunity to shave inches. I'm kinda liking the idea of 90Wh batteries instead, unless using with motorized lenses, a Redmote Pro and a bigger RED touch screen with pass-through. 0.002
