  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

a few basic questions :)

please someone tell me where to cheaply and easily have cables made. I don't even know where to buy lemo connectors or the appropriate guage of cables. Vendors, please show us some cheap easy prices for drive cables, battery extensions and lcd extensions.

also, FWIW in my opinion, the store could have a lot more info, like weight of each piece and why you'd want each piece so that those of us coming from other fields know how and why to spend our money. Even a price comparison to industry standard products might make us feel better about a $290 battery belt clip. I think they might move more products or at least help those of us who are buying RED stuff buy the products without having to debate ignorant people on the forum boards about trade policies or the free market economy.

I think i heard somewhere that the drive cable can't be much longer because of power/data rate issues, I could be wrong though. It's not a hard cable to make (don't know myself where to get them, but lemo connectors are deifnately not cheap) , but the question is will you have problems extending the lenght 10X?

thanks guys, a couple more:

1) Does it matter if I leave the batteries on the charger for extended periods of time (overnight or longer)? Can I take them off before they're fully charged?

2) is there a way to view shutter speeds in angles? I'm used to the fractions, but it gets confusing when doing slow motion. It be easier to know that 180 degrees is always 180 no matter how many frames ur shooting.

Thanks

You will definitely have problems if you try to use too long disk cables. SATA cables can be up to 1 m, eSATA can be 2m, FireWire 400 can be 4.5m, FireWire 800 can be 100m, Ultra-320 SCSI can be 12m, and Fibre Channel can be 50000m. The current CF standard is like ATA, so it is limited to 46cm.

It might be possible to get longer distances by using (very expensive) custom made cables, but it is rarely worthwhile.
