I couldn't (unless I used Lazerus compiler), but to help someone else write it..

.. all the program does is look for the phrase 'REDV' in the original R3D file (won't work with spanned files), and count the number of occurances, which equals the number of frames.

If the users only wants 500 frames, it only copies the data up until the 501 occurance of the phrase 'REDV', job done. Now someone with Mac coding experience should be able to manage that

It obviously won't work for spanned R3D files, as the connection would be lost.
