I'm just glad I have one of the last 30" Apple displays ever made. It's so nice to run off my MacBook Pro at 2560 x 1600 and all. :)

Hehe, I will be running at the same resolution with the new 27" and my MBP unibody too ;)

Just make sure you don't get "pixel-size" envy. One day the iPhone 5 will run at 2560 x 1600 but won't be nearly as fun as the old 30" ACD. :)

No you won't. The 17" is 2560x1440 :P

And guys, don't stress over the mini displayport connector if you have a full size displayport connector -- you just need a mini to standard adapter or cable no big deal.

As for driving the display from dual-link DVI, that can't be done yet. There's only a couple DVI to displayport adapters out there and none of them support dual link that I'm aware of. Apple sells the Gefen one and does not have one of their own. The Gefen people told me at NAB that they were working on a dual-link DVI to displayport adapter, but it still has not shown up on their site. So for now, your max resolution from a DVI port (even dual link) is 1920x1200. And with the adapter being $149 anyway, it's probably best to just get a new graphics card if you want to drive this monitor.

Apple did alright with the $999 price, but just consider that for $650 more you can buy the same 27" screen with a pretty darn nice computer built in. And yes, the 27" iMac does accept input so it can be used as a monitor.

the i3 27" Apple is on sale at JB hiFi for $1498 ($Aus)

Yeah, I'm really missing the ability to check my make-up on my old 30" ACD. :)

Buy 'em used on eBay while you still can. I'm telling' ya.

I will take the reflections over the graininess any day ;) Not to mention LED backlight, IPS panel. And for $100 less than the current 30" you can get a pretty powerful computer installed as well. :D

So you man to say that when the 30" was connected and now to be 27" to the 17" MBP, we don't get the full rez out of the Cinema Displays??

If it is a newer unibody 17" MBP you won' have any problems.
