  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

9 More 4k DPX files... did i mention it's a Ford Model?

I hate to say it but it looks as if film has the edge here. Even without NDs, silks, and fill light you could never clip the highlights in that way. They might burn eventualy but with a much smoother curve than what we see in that frame.

I am waiting your new Red Alert export for a final verdict. It might not be so bad after all. :-)

And just to end this on a positive way.. the other frames are fantastic!!

Film always had the edge here. The dynamic range of red is somewhere around 11 stops, which is not going to beat film any time soon.

However, I updated the article to include some additional exports from RedAlert!. Take a look

Also guys, i wouldn't focus on that one clip, its not how you would light anything on a film set. Play with some of the images that were not so harshly lit and youll see there is a lot of room to play.

I tried to do a fast grade again to see how the new .jpg behaved and i found out that the highlights were not even cliped!

It's so easy to become a RED fanboy!

You see, all is right in the world again. :)

I'm not worried about that clipping business. I'm sure it was a hot day and RED beats any other digi-cams out there.

Ill post some clips later tonight.

how do i watch the dpx files

Open them in Photoshop.

I didnt have time to transcode and upload any movie files but I will sometime this weekend at the latest. Life gets busy when you have a RED camera! :)

However, I have a feeling that what Im going to show next week will be a wee bit more interesting :matrix:

My "film-like"-nice-roll-off take:

I gets more and more clear that all the odd looking blown highlights that we've seen in many footage has more to do with poor RAW developing than anything.

Like your film look concrete. The hot spot on the arm still bugs me but I dig look overall.

Looks killer Omen! I really like the 2nd look. Has a cool editorial vibe.

Thanks Emery. :matrix: Me like you liking it.
