I'm generally familiar with the issue of the 2/3" interchangeable model not being ideally compatible with 35mm still or PL mount lenses (crop factor from hell).

So, unless I end up buying a set of the "mini PL" primes from Red -- the best option is probably to wait for the S35 -- that, as I understand it, I can plug in either PL or Nikon mount lenses with ideal results.

BUT -- as I write this -- I'm sitting two feet away from a Letus Ultimate and complete set of Zeiss primes along with a few Nikon zooms. This raises the question -- would an 8x fixed zoom model be a good fit? Can 35mm adapters be used with the fixed zoom Scarlet?

Or have I opened up a nasty can of worms with a dumb thought?

Thanks.

Someone answered this for me a while back, sry i have the worst memory in history so this may not be correct but im fairly sure that i was told you can use an adapter with the fixed and the thread size is 77mm i think (hopefully thats accurate :) )

It would work, but besides the crop factor I don't see the point.

If you have one then try it once the cameras come out, but I believe that the DOF will be fine with the fixed lens. And if you like the look of the 35mm image converter post some pics to show the comparison of the 35mm adapter on the Scarlet as well as the non-35mm adapter.

Sure it'd work, but at 3k I'm guessing the ground glass grain would be real easy to notice so unless you definitely need super shallow focus it'd be a moot point. However if you do need super shallow focus I'm guessing it'll work just fine(ground glass grain starts to creep in when you stop down the lens anyway, so shooting with an adapter and photo lens wide open should be ok).

It will definitely be interesting to see if the Letus Ultimate or any of the other 35mm adapters out there will be good enough for the 3K sensor.

IMO, the light loss and ground glass will just work against you. If you already have a set of zeiss primes, then it probably makes the most sense to sell the Letus adapter at some point and wait for the S35 Scarlet.

Even if you don't have prime lenses the S35 makes much more sense by far. If you have any good set of Nikon, Canon, or any other decent set of lenses the S35 would be the best decision for that shallow DOF.
