  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

8x 3K Frame Grab

Well, Jarred referred to the image as "8x 3K", which is consistent with how people refer to the various HDR-X modes for Epic and Scarlet (3x HDR, 4x HDR, etc.) so unless he's being deliberately misleading, which is doubtful, it seems clear that he's telling us he shot this at 3K on a Scarlet with the HDR-X setting at 8.
More subjectively, the image has an "HDR look" similar to when the minority of stills photographers who employ HDR tastefully do so.

"8x 3K" would refer to the fixed-lens Scarlet (an 8x zoom), as opposed to the "cinema" model (with interchangeable lenses/mounts). The HDR has been referred to with regards to the number of additional stops gained (+1, +2, etc.) with a current stated cap at +6.

I'm with those assuming a non-HDR image on this one.

I would like to see a few seconds, instead of a single frame.
If RED provided more appetizer footage, the more potential customers would wait for it, because it is worth.

My guess.

The frame grab didn't originate on Reduser or ScarletUser. Which means that discussion (per photo) would have to be taken with a grain of salt. IMO.

I stand corrected!

Whether people think the image is all that and a bag of chips, it lets us know that RED is getting more comfortable with the Scarlet's progess to show the public more of what they are doing.

Joseph are you suggesting that we follow Facebook for technical information on the Epic and Scarlet?

Not at all. I personally am friends with Jarred on Facebook because we were friends before I even did Facebook. Others might be doing it just for news updates...but I'm not here to say who is and isn't.

Point taken. Will setup my Facebook RSS feed. Thanks for the clarity. Scarlet is on way!

For the love of God please tell me that Scarlet S35 isn't too far away.

Here's what would have got me *really* excited: A picture of a Scarlet being packed into a shipping box, on its way to a real and ordinary end user, like me.

To me, that's much more exciting than Jarred's wife.

But dude, well all know they are not there yet. And yeah, everyone wants a shipping camera, got it.

This still or frame grab is the first picture we’ve really seen of subject matter in a practical setting. The old Izzy shot, and a clip of a lens racking focus don’t really count. This is an example of what something shot with a Scarlet can look like. That’s exciting.

Yep, this is exciting!!! It's a single frame, and of course we all want more. But this does demonstrate a lot about the ability of this camera.

I think this type of scene with all the detail, and contrast in light, would be a perfect time to show a side by side example of how it blasts the competition. Just sayin'

I have a new appreciation for the personal sacrifices Jarred is making when he puts in those long hours at Red to give us the Scarlet. Thanks, Jarred. That image is fantastic.
