Hello All,

Anyone here getting .r3d from the 8K helium into photoshop? 6k Weapon no problem but 8k comes back with an error. Any suggestions gratefully received.
I need to create 300dpi tiffs and REDcine only outputs 72dpi

Cheers

Same issue - however - REDCine tiffs are just fine, all the pixels are there. Load the image in photoshop, go to image size, change the DPI with 'resample image' unchecked, and re-save.

Why exactly does it default to 72dpi?!

This is a bug

This is a bug

I was having similar issue every time I tried to open a R3D still I would get "Could not complete your request because the video file could not be opened." I sent a note to support and was told it was a bug in the software that they are working to fix but they had no ETA on it as of 18 March 2017.

From what I understand, DPI in images can be changed easily in photoshop. An 8K 72dpi file is exactly the same resolution as an 8K 300dpi file, the only differnce is the print size of the 300dpi file will be smaller. You should be able to just change the DPI of the 8K 72dpi to 300dpi in Photoshop.

Yes that is true, however it would be nice to work directly with the RAW. I am getting a fair amount of noise in the image when blown up just wondering what tools people are using for this?

Check out the Camera RAW filter in the filters menu (not the import dialog) - it gives you all the regular stills stuff from the raw importer, but on any bitmap image - noise reduction, chroma noise reduction, vignetting correction, CA correction, sharpening etc etc
