FCPX does not accept the new r3d files from helium cameras, or at least the files that were made available. Does anyone have any idea how long it usually takes for something like this to be supported?

Steve

When Jarred mentioned that the Helium was for the brave (in reference to those purchasing the limited edition white camers) this was one aspect. Basically 3rd parties need to integrate the latest SDK for Helium support. It takes time, which is probably one reason that the official announcement is 10/11. This gives Apple, Adobe, Avid, etc... time to support the new SDK.

Assimilate and Blackmagic added support for the latest SDK within a week of it being released to Scratch and Resolve. They have been able to open Helium files for a while now.

Of course we will probably need a new SDK with the new color science that has been mentioned. Once that is released, then there will be some amount of time to support that.

In the mean time, you can use RCXP and transcode for use with FCPX.

Stacy, you mean transcode to pro res? I might just shoot in pro res then for the time being, I am not going to use it for anything mission critical, just double up my shots ect to compare

Hey Steve,

I notice a new Apple Workflow Installer dated August 2016 for FCP X.

Did you try importing using that?
The update supports Log310 and RED Wide Gamma which was released around the same time as
Helium so it may include support for the R3Ds.

EDIT- it does say 8K and under so Maybe not.

I am in the middle of transferring a ton of files from this weekend, once it is done I will try, I do have some updates to run, thanks for the heads up

Steve

cool I was hoping to use some 8K stuff for a shoot this friday, but its all good to wait, I would rather it be done right than dodgy, hopefully support will come in the next week or so???

Steve

so this may be a dumb question, but still should be able to shoot in pro res and import into fcpx, wonder what the options will be? 422hq most likely I am guessing, should match with my pixe5h's nicely

Steve

yes, this thread is close to a month old

steve

works perfect with all updates, editing 8K footage in fcpx as we speak
