  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

8-16mm Sigma with Scarlet ?

@ Terry

crop factor is a relative term, if you are a still photographer and feel the need to always relate it back to what you are comfortable with which is full frame in your case then do so but keep in mind that full frame has nothing to do with the original question.

The original post was about an 8-16 zoom on a scarlet. My post 13 used the term crop factor in order to answer the original question which was 35mm lenses on a 2/3.

ie 2.5 crop factor when relating between 2/3 and s35

tell me ... why do you feel the need to relate back to still photography as your baseline standard when this is a cinematography forum?
RED has not made a full frame camera, and in there immediate upcoming cameras everything is s35 and 2/3 not full frame
in fact the only point of reference you have regarding modern cinematography is to the 5DMark2.

I think we agree on the basic concepts. Not sure how you would explain the sensor chart which does indicate the APS-C (and by extension, the Four-Perf) as having a 1.6x crop, in your world. That factor relates directly back to the still frame FF35. If you refer back to the many knowledgeable posts here on this forum by David Raspberry, I think you might see why I have the frame of reference that I do. I hope I haven't misinterpreted his own charts and explanations - as I have downloaded his spreadsheet to use as a handy reference.

Because that's what people almost invariably mean when talking about crop factors. If you're talking about anything else, you need to specify very explicitly, as you are departing from an accepted norm.
