Hi Guys

Are the 64GB SSD's to small? any thoughts?

1. Like how many minits will we get at 5k HDRx and 120 fps?

2. And what about Scarlet at 4k 24fps?

What are your experience so far?

There is a sticky with this info in the Epic section.

thanks Andrae

So what is your thought about it? what is your experience with the 64GB ssd's so far?

It's too small (especially in HDRx mode)... that's why I decided to go with 128GB SSD's... and in that case you will really need two 128GB SSD's due to the offload time.

I'd say for TV Series shooting 4KHD, it's perfect. If you have at least 5 per camera. We have a mix of 64GB and 128GB, and it's very rare that we shoot over 64GB per roll. In this workflow the number of cards is more important than the size of the individual card. Of course if we have an HDRx shot on an Epic, we pull out the 128GB.

For my own personal, documentary and experimental use, I own 256GB SSDs, as I am out in the field all day and need to reduce the amount of gear I'm carrying. Of course coming home each time with half a Terabyte of data makes me calculate how many RAIDs I can fit in my basement...

I want a pair of 128's and a single 256 for my style of shooting, and for various needs of clients. But for someone on a shoestring.... a pair of 64's is what I have to live with for the fiurst few weeks till my revenue stream builds back up.

Especially I think you are right if you are shooting any 120FPS 5K!!!!!

If you've got multiple cameras, (or can find another buyer to pare up with) I think a good way of going is splitting up the two versions of the 4-packs that Red is offering: 2 x 64gb and 2x 256gb gives you lots of storage & flexibility & better gb/$ than buying the 128's.

Thanks for the feedback guys, yes i think the 128SSDs are the best solution.

When/If they come out with the rear-SSD module.... that will really end a lot of the requirement, at least for me, of having a large number of SSDs... If I am op'g as DIT/Wrangler or I have a one working with me when I Op I can keep on top of the offload/swap using smaller SSDs.

But for now, I know my first income from the Epic will go to buy media and a few other bits.
