  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

64Gb CF

$1100, and we will let you know as soon as we know when they are shipping :)

Jarred,

Would two of these effectively replace RED RAM?

David

in terms of volume, yes. But REDRAM can still facilitate larger REDCODE data rates, since it is a RAID volume. That doesn't matter much on the RED ONE, but it does on EPIC.

Thanks Jarred
Do you guys have a timeline for announcing the Data options for EPIC (SSD, Drives) and what price points they'll be at?

shadowing rorys question...

will i be able to use my standard 16 gig cards or red drives with the epic?

not to concerned with large data.. as what i have now with red one is plenty..
I just want my two camera systems to run the same..

$1100 seems ok to me... Considering how much the 16's went for! this is 4 times the storage at 2.4 times the cost.

Uh, do you remember a little thing called p2 ?

Yeah.. like 6 years ago? An eternity for this kind of technology.

I am not saying they ain't worth it. I have no idea about the factors that determine the price of such a product.

I was just looking at other 64GB CF cards on the market at around $300 and thought that the RED CFs might be double that. I wasn't expecting times four!

Well, i guess whoever needs them will get them. :rolleyes5:

This guy... I laugh when I see all this cry on prices, when the footage shot on those card can easily worth anywhere from $5,000-$15,000.

If Red is what the client needs the the budget is there why not.

16gb cards will work just fine on EPIC.. and so will the drives with the RED DRIVE module ( for the port ) The 64GB cards are faster than the 16GB cards though.. so again the REDCODE rates will vary.

Expensive, yes... Oh, wait, how much do 32GB P2 cards currently sell for? Oh, yeah....
I don't really need any more media right now, but I did just sell one of my RED-RAMs, so I guess I'll take a couple 64GB cards to replace it. I'm really just anxious to get my hands on my shiny Stage-2 Epic and I'm definitely interested in the larger SSD modules that are coming up!

Whoa, that is less than 4 16GB cards and writes faster? Badass!

is it too early to clarify this? i.e. Is Red RAM the only media that will write Redcode 250?

It would be awesome if there was some sort of chart that showed RC Rates
for each media.

i.e.

8GB and Red Drives up to RC36
16GB up to RC 42
64GB up to RC100?
RedRam up to RC250?

thanks!

will the RED Dual CF for EPIC be able to RAID 2 cards together to yield faster write speeds for lower compression rates?

They hot swap, but good question. Does that exist? i.e a CF raid 0?

also interestingly, lower compression means a higher Redcode number (bit rate) not just compression.

Im remember reading SSD modules are required for RC250- but jarred just mentioned RED RAM was still best for high Redcode (low compression) - I assume he means the new ones, not sure.

32gb cards are $579, and 64gb cards are $899. That is for e series cards, but 64gb will mean nothing five years from now anyways. And the 1.2 gbps is nice.

$1100 doesn't seem unreasonable to me for Red CF cards, but I have to admit I never thought I'd see the day when P2 was cheaper then, well, anything.
