  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

5k TV - 105 inch LG

4K TV is so 2013, lol...

I take this as more of a "hey, look what we can make!" sort of thing. However, there are a couple other manufacturers getting into the 21:9 aspect ratio game here and I think that's a good move. Not so sure about the curved display thing… However it seems that 2160p is becoming the new 1080p and along with the ultra-wide monitors, the 5120 pixel width is getting a push. Not just from LG.

This week should be interesting.

I read of tv's made in Japan and Korea with 8k res. That was late 2012. I'm 100% sure you can buy them today, maybe not in the US and Europe but Japan/S.Korea yes.

Technology moves forward and story telling backward.

I'm not one to blow my money on gadgets. But if this TV ever drops into the 3-5k range, it really will be like having a theatre in your home.

You are on the right track there Michael, but remember the THX home theater recommends between 120-200 inch. But the crimson projector is raking so long....

Let's backup guys, what about the power costs? I guess this is LCD, and unless it is using low powered LCD then you might be able to convince the wife you should buy it because it can double as a heater in winter (forgetting to tell her about all the noxious fumes a 1-2kw of electronic gadget would give off in an airtight energy efficient room).

Ken, our friend, any links or info you can remember? ;). I more need an 8k+ projector, but a 8k TV is good.

Wish the screen had a curve of 180 degrees. Also, I wonder if it would be possible to mount it onto the ceiling above the bed...

8K displays are in prototype form and Sharp had the first public demo of a consumer-grade prototype at CES 2013 but NHK has had 8K TV demo's in conjunction with Panasonic's display R&D teams for some time. Back in the heyday of Plasma TV, you could buy a 4K set from Panasonic for tens of thousands of dollars and those sets were the size of cars with 100-inch or larger screens.

I want a 360 degree 5k screen no glasses 3d screen...its like a room you walk into and it closes on you like a pod... its 4d or something lol?

Silicon graphics or some such firm did such a screen in the 90's, maybe 80's with multiple projectors (I don't think I t is just one overhead projector). Now we have higher resolution projectors.

But the crimson projector is taking so long....

I suspect it'll be abandoned. It's probably going to cost $10,000 and $10k is going to buy a whole lot of LCD/OLED in the very near future. LCDs are just so much better than a projector in so many ways: black levels in not-pitch-black spaces, focus, geometry accuracy and cable management.

My prediction coming true again. I don't usually spell it out completely, why be too negative when there is hope. But I was worried about these sort of things reducing the opportunity to complete in the market completely. It needs special handling to answer most of your objections, which I considered over the years for my own designs. Red could make a optional 200 inch flat panel case like the laservue if they wanted to. They could do this for 27 inch - 60 inch - 120 inch+ . It was never useless or not good enough except if not too late, or not done.

I'm about to put up a thread asking anybody going to CES, to let us know of if they see 4k+ cameras, projectors or touch tables. So, it will be interesting to see what anybody might come across.

Sure, and it would probably weigh more, be less sharp at the peripheral, have poorer viewing angles, have increased image texture and still have poorer image quality than an OLED or LCD. We've taken OLED from 3" on a phone to 150" in just a couple years.

Possibly, but their rivals are moving forward with laser projection. Sony unveiled their first home cinema SXRD laser projector today. 4K, 2000 lumens, and up to 147-inches of coverage. $30-$40K. If the price came down to a few thousand dollars like their Xenon projectors did, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
