  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

5K 3000FPS 128K ISO. Whats Next?

Computing power is mind-boggling if you were to finish at 2k or higher with total freedom for (virtual) camera placement.

Plenoptic lenses are very interesting. I guess they could help if there was absolutely no way to get more angles in a tight space, though that really doesn't sound like a likely scenario with Epic with Mostro (and 645) in the horizon. There would have to be other benefits.

I love that you would get the clothes motion with Volume Capture, and hair.... thought that is going to be the hardest thing of course. One camera captures a strand of hair, but the other doesn't... wilds stuff.

Then put this together with true Holographic TVs.... Sometimes I get upset that I wasn't born "later". But where would that stop?

Yeah, hair, glass, grass, bushes, water...they all require a lot of data blended together very cleverly to avoid breaking the Volume Capture system. I would also imagine that if Kinect like IR sensors were to be deployed IR pollution from hot surfaces/lights would also generate problems.

Oh well, I'll stick to the "big picture" stuff and leave the details to programmers, mathematicians, physicists and mad billionaires... :)

Are there any other systems that we could add to our hair brained Volume Capture devices? Lidar would require distracting light sources would it not? Compass, GPS and accelerometers wouldn't help too much...umm, throwing ideas out there. Would ultra sound and low powered (safe) uv radiation help as well?

I'm thinking that if you have droplets of water in the scene you could compute the refractive index and other optical properties by interpolating the visual data from the monstro sensors. Would the ir/ultrasound/uv profile help gather different information to "tag" the droplet assets as water and say, not "noise" or an anomaly that should be eliminated during data processing and collation?

Any visual imaging scientists care to comment? :)

Or we could just pack four or five Epic brains into one box, use a 645 sized sensor and shoot 200fps + at about 8k with really big photosites, getting ultra low noise floor and the ability to push up to say ISO 4000 for noise free theatrical 4k. I would be cool with that. But I would keep a FF35 Epic or an S35 with smaller photosites for stuff that benefited from smaller sensors and didn't require high ISO (or to shoot about 500fps!). I mean it, I would be totally cool with that. I wouldn't complain. :)

But I'd take 5k 3,000fps 128k ISO with a smile too.

I think at this point, with so much data to manipulate... The line dividing movies and interactive entertainment (games) is going to blur.

You could either make a 3D film ot ouf it or code a game out of the data you gathered.

Crazy stuff.

So what happens next?

It's just a matter of time (5 to 10 years?) when we have a camera (all cameras) with basicly unlimited FPS, unlimited ISO and plenty of resolution. What does one sell then? Glass? I think so! Your thoughts?

Bit depth, replace the Bayer sensor... It has a ways to go.
