hi there , does anyone have specific information about the different 5K (5k 2:1 / 5k FF / 5k 2:40:1/ 5K ANA )option on the epic?

and what would be the best 5K option for any given job?

many thanks

You should read the Epic product page on Red.com

http://www.red.com/products/epic

From that page:

PIXEL ARRAY
5120 (h) x 2700 (v)

ACQUISITION FORMATS
5K RAW (Full Frame, 2:1, 2.4:1 and Anamorphic 2:1)
4.5K RAW (2.4:1)
4K RAW (16:9, HD, 2:1 and Anamorphic 2:1)
3K RAW (16:9, 2:1 and Anamorphic 2:1)
2K RAW (16:9, 2:1 and Anamorphic 2:1)
1080p RGB (16:9)
720p RGB (16:9)

What more specific information do you want? You can solve the ratio's arithmetically to determine the pixel resolutions.

Jannard and the crew at Red feel that you should shoot for 4K 2:1 delivery. There is a long discussion about this.

Mr Jannard recommends presenting footage in 4K 2:1.
You actually shoot at 5K 2:1, then de-bayer the 5K to 4K.
This format supports up to 96fps (at 10:1 RC compression).

Honestly it really depends on the nature of your shoot and FPS you want/need. Yes, 2:1 ratio will give you best options for clean extraction of most deliverables so you may want to start there, but 2.4:1 gives you 120fps.

hi there everyone thanks for the input.

the project it will be an exterior shoot over few day, and there will be an heavy post work in it afterward. that is as much as i know for now ..... shooting at 25fps and intended for uk Tv.

what could it be my best setting? 5kFF or 5k2:1 bearing in mind the VFX work?

thanks so much

i would recommend 2:1 unless you have special reason/need to do differently. it's probably not going to matter all that much what you choose, just as long as you frame for it correctly. is that decision going to be up to you? i would recommend deferring or conferring with others involved to decide what you think would work best.

If your Lenses will cover the 5kFF format this will give you more Height, so you are cropping very little for a 16x9 finish. In other words the closest format to 16x9... But there are a great deal of Lenses that don't cover the sensor.
