Throwing in my vote for the hacked GH2. It's the king of sub $5,000 cameras. I have one shooting at 160mbit intra frame only (latest driftwood settings). Never overheats. Very stable, very solid, and because of the intra frame compression, very organic noise and no macroblock problems. Practically no moire or aliasing issues. Jello on par with 7d and 5d. Really, really impressed by it. I've used it almost exclusively with Nikon glass, but it can use Canon as well or even PL for that matter. Just swap out the lens mount adapter.
B-roll shot on my GH2 was cut into a RED One MX feature without any major issues (1080p finish), so it's perfectly fine as a B cam with Scarlet if your output is 1080p. It's sharper than any of the Canons as it does not line-skip. Its only major shortcoming is the 8 bit 4:2:0 color, which can result in banding if you're not careful.
It's never going to be as good as Scarlet, but for the money it simply can't be beat and outperforms all the Canons IMHO. But to each his own, I guess.
