  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

599 Productions - Timelapse Reel# 3 (Red & 40D footage)

Andrew. Really spectacular work. I watched it with my 8 year old. Both of us were hypnotized by the images.

Seems to be some of my best audience. I have a couple friends I work with and they say their kids love watching it as well. It guess its a little hypnotic.

Love it! :)

Really incredible stuff. Was that smoke over the lake shots from some of the fires? A lot of these shots could fit right in with Baraka/Koyaanisqatsi.

Out of curiosity, how do you set up your still camera for timelapse? Are you using a laptop as a controller, or are you physically/manually timing your shutter actuations? I have a D70s...a lesser camera, of course, but something I'd like to use for this type of stuff. Any suggestions?

Brilliant work.

Glad you like the work I do. The shots at the lake have clouds coming off the ground because if the sun hitting the snow under the trees. But this was the site of some of those big fires last year up by Redding.

I use a Timer Remote Controller that Canon makes to fire off frames. I've been using it for the past couple of years and I really like it because it's way better than carrying a computer around with me.

Andrew, I always enjoy your work and I should comment more on it... but this one was truly inspirational. Thank you for sharing man.

Cheers,

Andrew

Andrew,
really great stuff here my friend! Dang, your last reel was good but you've clearly improved. You are to the city what Tom is to the country

Yeah I get that a lot about Tom and myself. I think it would be cool to team up with him to make the timelapse film he's working on right now.:rolleyes5:

Again if you think this reel is good I can't wait to have the next one done. Its going to have some more new stuff in it that no one has seen but also a lot of my older footage. I'm hoping the new video will be impossible for me to beat...of course that doesn't mean I won't try.

say those airport night shots, or shots over freeway.i want to try something like this with 5dmark2 and just curious what is even approximate guideline to start off with.
i mean is it a shot every second or every 5...
i understand it trial and error, but any field advice will be of help

anyone?

Well the idea is to try and make it as smooth as possible. So in order to do that I would suggest keeping the duration between frames as short as possible and having your exposures long. Of course this is really only advice that I find useful with the night shots. But again it depends on what your shooting.

If you want to do this type of stuff just go out and do some tests to see what works best.

Sorry I'm not more forthcoming about the exact method to how these shots were made. But I had to do some tests to see what worked and what didn't. But through that testing I learned more about shooting timelapse than I would have if someone just told me how to do it.
