50fps on a 25fps timeline

Why does 50fps recorded on a DSLR or Blackmagic video assist not play in slow motion on a 25p timeline? My red footage shot at 50fps plays at half speed as it should.

Because your editor it interpreting the the 50FPS to play back at normal speed in your 25fps.

That is, your editor says "Hey , you just dropped a 10 second long 50FPS (500 Frames) clip into this timeline, so I will ignore every other frame in the clip so that it remains 10 seconds long.

While you were expecting the editor to say "hey you just dropped a 500 frame long clip so it's going to take up 20 seconds on the timeline."

You just need to tell your editor to re-interpret your clip as 25fps.

Thanks Todd. it plays in smooth slow motion now after interpreting the clip as 25fps.
