I just got home from a shoot and noticed some strange looking smudge focus on the left side of the screen. Look closely at the trees to the left. It's very noticeable in 2k mode. Can anyone please tell me what's the problem? 50-150 double stacked a 1.2 and .6 ND. I did not use IR filters.

Bench test camera and Lens ASAP.
I assume the issue is very evident when you pan.
Good luck.

Looks like the effect, you get with a tilt/shift lens, which suggests that something isn't parallel. Doesn't look like a filter issue,I would get camera & lens checked on a bench.

Thanks for all the posts.

I don't have this issue with my 18-50 and 300 now that I think about the 18-50 looks a little soft but no where near this effect. I will contact my rep Monday.

Can someone at RED comment on this?

I'm not sure if this is possible but since I need to send it back for audio/pin upgrades is it possible I can get this all done soon? I'd hate to send it back twice and I can't really wait for RED to contact me when my camera is next. This is major problem for me as I cannot use the 50-150.

I had a similar problem and tested my camera against another with same lens and it actually proved itself to be the sensor :waaa:

So also test if you can with another RED cam.

If you don't have any charts tape written pages on the wall and take the widest prime lens you have and see from the closest possible focus range. In this case I guess your 18-50?

You'll instantly see if it's the sensor.

Thanks weirdcrew, I'll give that I try as soon as I get home.

Have you adjusted your back focus?
Cleaned both elements on the lenses?
Checked the sensor, etc...?

i had a similar effect (not as strong as this here) with my first 18-50mm. got a new one, now it´s sharp as hell at every corner.
when you have no issue with your 300 it should be a good sign it is not the camera or sensor, "only" the lense.

It's interesting that you mention this, because I had a conversation with a rental company in London last week who told me about an 18-50 a client of theirs had received and one of the elements was totally out of alignment.
I'm happy with mine, but it seems that there are rogue lenses out there.
I think I would start by having the lens checked before you send the camera back.
Tom.

I'd hate to have to ship back this lens as it is the main work horse for me....

red service/support is very fast. you won´t have a long break for your horse!

Try it on a 18-50 even though I had a issue with the 50-150? Just want to confirm.

My bad, throw up the 50-150 and check your BF. Doesn't sound like it's the problem but all options b4 sending the body in right? And you said you haven't adjusted the BF...
