  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

5 Megapixels camcorder

and it costs $102.45, lower in quantity. About the same price as a 5-pack of Red 12mm wingnuts, or 5 Red t-shirts from the Red store.

Sounds like quite a bargain. Almost too good to be true...

Could it be a worthy succesor to the Canon HV20/HV30?
I really wonder how do you edit that 5MP footage...
I also noticed it has a fixed lens(no zoom and no focusing). And the lens looks kinda small for a 1/2 inch sensor.

The market will see many of those.

Canon, Hasselblad, Nikon and yes, even nokia and samsung will all enter the market for cameras in cinema resolution in the not so far future, en passant, if you want so.

It's already happening in the still camera market... I know several people who only care about megapixels when picking a new camera.

if it's really 5MP it will be good(if compression is not horrid) for throwing off buildings and running over with cars for that special action shot!

what's 5 megapixels? like, 1080p?

Damn it, I was mugged

Specs/Maker?

Specs/Maker?

Is this camera for real?????:w00t:
It claims it has a 1/2 inch sensor and can shoot up to 30 fps at 5Megapixels(that would be something like 2582 x 1944).

I think you will probably find that it shoots 30fps video at 640x480 max., and stills at up to 5Mpixels (i.e. it shoots 5M and 30fps just not at the same time). There are many units with those specs, probably use the same reference circuit. I don't think it could record uncompressed 5M to the small SD card as an AVI, does anyone know the max byte write rate for a 4GB SD card? If it did you would get less than about a minute record time.

If someone gets one, please let me know if it shoots larger than 640x480 for video files at 24fps or 30fps.

There are some MPEG4 units that may shoot 1280x720p, but I have not seen ones that shoot uncompressed AVI at 1280x720p, as far as I can remember.

It would be nice to find a Web cam or something cheap to use with my "freeish" 24fps editing system. Why these cheep things do not run at 24fps as an option is odd to me, who wants 15fps? Anyone know of a Web cam with manual exposure that can shoot at 24fps good enough for double system sync sound?

I am increasing the size my post system can deal with to about 8K+ so it is ready for Epic and other large sensor cameras coming next year.
