  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So if I use the display to make settings, when it comes to playback everything is blown out.

Am I missing something?

Scarlet #0704 by the way.

Looking in to that. very green user here... Got the thing yesterday.
Which should I be using?

By the way, blown out isn't really it, more like noisy and grainy.

what ISO are you exposing for and is your exposure between the goal posts on the histogram at the bottom? The left goal post is the noise indicator and the right is the clipping indicator. You want to keep everything in between those and as far to the right as possible without clipping/blowing out the highlights. View in Redcolor (This shows you the interpretation of what your image looks like with your current settings). RAW view shows you what the sensor is "seeing" without any user adjustments or iso tweaks. You only ever really check RAW to see what is clipping.

Thanks for that.

I was test shooting in low light and I think it was probably in RAW viewing mode It totally makes sense as I felt like I was viewing video feed.
I'll run the same test tonight and report results on here. I am sure I'll be having a few more issues before we do a set test on Monday. I'm not really a DP, I have DPs on crew but my principal DP is new to RED. I have a feeling that my involvement with the actual photography of this project has just taken a promotion as the camera owner.

I super appreciate all the good advice I get on this board. It makes a great difference to have a forum where the content is, to a vast extent, positive and informative.

No worries, we were all new to RED at one time or another.

I believe if you hold down on the histogram on the touch screen it should bring up te viewing mode option, then just choose redcolor. You'll notice a huge difference right away. Or you can do it through the menu under video.
