  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi, everyone, I've been looking at any updates on the audio scene since I was at NAB and I've been surprised at the apparent VR audio scene with some interesting surround recording solutions I haven't heard of before. Admittedly, cameras seem to get the most attention but other than the Holophone 5.1 series of microphones and a few other specialized surround mics, I didn't know there were more surround recording microphones beyond that so what's the word on the current state of surround recording? Anybody using anything in particular for filmmaking use or for effects?

The Sennheiser Ambeo VR Mic is what I use with a Zoom F6. The recorder has Ambisonic modes and Sennheiser provides an app/VST plugin for shifting/rotating the sound in post. And beyond the four inputs used by this mic, it leaves two more for other mics like lavalier or shotgun.
Apart from the actual shooting I also use the Ambeo often to grab environment noise or foleys because of the versatility compared to stereo recordings.
