Look at the video of the screen, at the bottom - WIFI

Does anyone know if they will have upgrade options for current scarletmx users? Just curious because I am trying to sell my MX at the moment. I want to know if I should hold on to it. Thank you.

Was just going to say the same. It also read F2.0 so it´s talking to a (presumable a Canon) lens as well.
Although it´s blurred, it seems to say 4K as well up there

This is intriguing.

One has to be careful not to fill in the blanks with one's own wish specs.

  • It's 4k
  • It's 120@4k
  • It's 120@4k… at sensor size…?
  • Body is Weapon generation (can this be confirmed?)
  • It's sensor generation is…
  • It's sensor size is…
  • Codec is…
  • It's price is…

Price of SSD Mini-Mag, 4.7" LCD, DSMC Power pack alone is: 1500+1450+550= $3500

And that's without the brain. Hmmm.

EDIT: In fairness, normally you don't get media with the camera so I've taken that out from the add ons above. But it needs a SSD module, power and a monitor (or a grip).

Price of SSD Mini-Mag, 120GB Mag, 4.7" LCD, XL module and XL battery alone is: 1500+850+1450+1150+350= $5300

And that's without the brain. Hmmm.

I bet the side SSD is included. and you don't have to use the XL module.

Sensor size is I think s35 or a bit smaller. I don't think Red would change their manufactured size and 4K on the 6K Dragon is less than s35.
Body seems to be Weapon generation if you look at how it looks, doesn't look like Scarlet/Epic.
Codec is unknown, seems to be R3D, but could be ProRes only.

Yes, I list the items that should be included in a RTS package. You can change the XL setup for a normal Redvolt if you want. But those things should be included with the brain within the #4K4ALL price tag… That's why I'm feeling it doesn't add up and I'm trying to illustrate the unlikeliness.

But #4K4ALL can't be $7000 for a brain only. Because that would be Scarlet all over again, and that camera already exists. Even if it's really aggressive at $5500... with mandatory additional RED components it adds up really quickly.

Somewhere people are making a huge assumption that will reveal itself as incorrect and a major 'gotcha'. I would be delightful to be wrong.

As much as I would like it to be lower priced, I'm seeing this as the Scarlet Dragon replacement, so I'm expecting similar pricing to that. Which then changes the hashtag from 4K4ALL (people) to 4K4ALL (framerates! (120fps))

Sounds reasonable about the Scarlet update. The checkboxes for the missing indie features are slowly being ticked in good fashion. The plot thickens. The big reveal will be a much better camera offering despite whatever the price point. Even if the price point holds steady with the current Scarlet pricing, it will still be a win/win. Hopefully, this camera will dispel the notion that the Scarlet was crippled or hobbled.

Good times as always on the RED wagon!

If it is a Scarlet refresh, Jarred should make the official announcement on the ScarletUser website. Give it the love it never had :)

4k 120fps - MX sensor in a new body - like gopro silver and white. Reusing the sensors they got into the shop from upgrades... how you guys can not see that. its so obvious. They just added WIFI and stuff like that...

We all get that idea.

And when RED runs out of MX sensors, what then? The end of RAVEN? Or do you suggest RED fires up new MX production into 2017?

I personally don't feel like camera sensors have exceptional shelf life. Even less so if the manufacturer want to be a class leader and move everything forward.

4K and all the 4s of Prores. No R3D. A camera aimed at the C300 and FS7.

As an FS7 owner, if there's no Redcode, I am not interested. Furthermore I doubt very much that Red owuld release a camera without the thing that sets them apart from everyone else.

Wouldn't the user base miss out on the goodness of the color science being ProRes only?

It seems that everyone shooting Alexa and all other non-raw codecs won't care about a raw color science like R3D. Having ProRes only will sell a lot more than R3D only. I don't agree with these people, I think R3D is far superior, but people are strange and the market is stranger.

It's definitely RedCode. Look at the video. RC [xx]:1

Why on earth would Red ditch the best advantage they have over the opposition? I've spent seven years with RedCode. I have literally never edited a ProRes project. It's a non-starter for me and has zero advantage over RAW (plus a tonne of disadvantages).

Cheers from Berlin,

Paul :)

Let's not forget the licensing of ProRes. I doubt that Red would release a camera that relied entirely on a codec they do not control.
