  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4K video board

Hey Baab, these boards have been around for a while. Made in germany and are used in DVS Clipster and the SGO Mistika to name a few. They retail for about $15,000 USA. They are mostly for people wanting to write custom apps around their API.

Wait for AJA to make their Kona4, 4k Board, will have better support and be a lot lot more affordable. DVS makes very few of these boards per year, that is why they are so expensive, but with AJA, when they make their 4k board, will make enough.

But this is the future. NVIDIA, AJA and other companies with the help of software developers will make reatime cc, realtime upres/dowres, and realtime format conversions. Graphics and Processing chips have the power now, like DVS, but people just need to write the software to take advantage of it.

Not the near future, I think. It has been the trend so far that the demands of software keep up with the abilities of hardware. Now that we can do realtime cc on consumer hardware of resolution x, cameras will soon be shooting 2x, and we will demand more control/options/etc out of our software.

And we'll be right back where we were (in terms of speed).

I have a Kona 3. It's great. John, do you know something about Kona 4? Makes perfect sense. But haven't heard about it. Gonna be an interesting NAB.

Hmm, I'm not convinced. I have worked at DI facilities with people much smarter then anyone here, and they have debated this over and over again. All we are doing it having digital acquisition and desktop editing, vfx and production meet the 2k, 35mm NEG, standard. Once that is reached and we we will find a cruising altitude for a long time.
