Hello guys and girls,

Just after a little assistance regarding a workflow for a recent project we shot on RED ONE MX. It's my first time handling R3D files and RED footage for an edit, as everything else is usually passed over to an editor and completed by them. I'm editing with Premiere Pro CS6 on a late 2009 iMac & started my edit about a month ago.

Now my issue is, we shot 4K and Quad HD (don't ask me why, I can't tell you) so I have two different resolutions of video in my bins (4480x1920 & 3840x2160). I'm working natively in Prem Pro and have since completed my picture lock for the edit. The settings for the project itself are at the moment set to 4480x1920, so as you can understand, the Quad HD footage is pillar boxed when dropped on this timeline. My thinking is to proxy both the 4K & Quad HD clips to say 2K or HD resolution so that the aspect ratios match throughout the project and we have a clean looking edit.

Can this be done within Prem Pro, or am I going to have to incorporate REDCINE-X into my workflow? Again, I'm new to this too so any workflow tips and help would be extremely appreciated.

I've still got visual fx and grading work to be done, so I'd ideally like to perhaps convert to 2K so that I still have a decent amount of image quality to downscale to HD with once the grade/visual fx are completed, but also not put the iMac through the strains of working with 4K all the time due to the iMac already running a little sluggish. The final master is likely to be in HD anyway.

I hope this is clear enough for you all. I'm not the best at explaining things too well so if anyone needs any more information just ask.

Thanks in advance!

Having the same issues myself!? We didn't work with the same DoP did we!? Haha
