  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4K Projectors in 2017

Oh sorry, I always assumed you were an atomos Ninja engineer.

Samsung just bowed a big, big 4K HDR LED screen at Cinemacon in Vegas this week: a 30' wall-sized array that can go to damn near 150fL (which is what I call "retina-searing" levels...

I'm figuring when my Sony 4K projector dies, it will be replaced by a ~12 foot wide 8K flat screen. And it will probably cost less than what I paid for the projector.

Interestingly enough... could theoretically down the road lead to passive glasses free stereo. Maybe we'll see a 3D renaissance redeux.

Just out of curiosity. Anyone have the specs on those cinema panels? I'm curious because by my figuring they're actually about 640x320 looking at the picture. That would be amusing to get to 4k purely out of SD displays.

You win Marc, that is impressive. QD coated Leds and we have rec2020.

You paid how much for a Sony 4k projector Jeff (don't answer that was a joke on wasting !obey on one :)

I hope this trickles down to home cinemas as well for 4K 3D capable walls in the 2-4m wide range and prices comparable to today's high end home cinema projectors.

Its already been shown off, around 40 inch panels are assembled at home to make the screen. Microleds are around half a millimeter pixels, so 8k is 4 meters wide, over 12 feet, and likely to be less expensive than those ridiculously priced 4k projectors were. I think Jeff is letting on something.

Just read the article. Direct drive QDled face a worse deterioration issue than OLED surprisingly. Putting QD on LEDs as a color filter is the alternative. Samsung has changed tact on qdled seemingly. I think their aim is to get microleds down enough to use with qd, with a rec2020 support in a 2020 marketing time frame.

However, a seven story Imax screen using these.
