Howdy,
this has probably been discussed many times over, but I cant find any threads. I have some 5k hand held footage from a car, and I want to stablize the 5k footage, not the HD footage in FCP, thus keeping a high res image. Any options that wont cost me an arm and a leg?
thanks

Stabilizer in After Effects cs6 is pretty good and easy to use - although a little unpredictable. After that, try Syntheyes (learning curve required, 500 dollars - true 3d track), then Nuke (3d tracking and stabilizing but pricey).

Hardware solutions include using gyros (kenyon - cheapest), steadicam arm on a garfield (subject to wind) or gyro tech like the scorpio head (creme de la creme) but rental only and pricey (but sooo worth it).

Cineron's new system looks hopeful - a friend has it running on a smaller camera and it's pretty amazing. Rock solid. Due to come out for the Scarlet/Epic sometime soon. Could be an amazing handheld rig.

Watch for too much foreground detail in your shot like windscreens n' stuff as this can fool the tracker and cause problems as the parallax becomes to great to correct.

I've often found simply mounting the camera to the car itself gives enough stability using a tripod or car mount assuming the suspension is good. Try to shoot on a smooth road.

Good luck with it.

EDIT: Rereading your post I now assume you've shot it. I'll leave the post as it is but CS6 is probably your best bet.
