Anyone care to share experiences with this new format? I have a commercial job coming up shooting Wednesday and I'm tempted to upgrade to the new Release build 17 and shoot 4KHD but I'm hesitant because I haven't tested it thoroughly.

What are the advantages of 4K HD? Faster transcodes to HD? Any potential pitfalls in post?

Thanks!

I would also like to know if anyone has tested their 8GB Lexar CF cards and whether they are now useless for anything above 2K recording on Build 17. Do I have to use only RED Drives or RED CF cards now if I want to record 3K and above?

Like 2K and 3K, the 4xHD mode is a crop. It's a slight crop by comparison. Resolution is 3840x2160 or quad-HD. It takes up a bit less space when recording and should provide some benefits in the post process in terms of direct 1/2 res scale to 1080p. Half-res proxies are 1920x1080 native, etc..

I really haven't used this mode, so can't comment on if there are any post hang-ups or not. But I think it's OK... Best to test first.
