4k footage transcode in FCX seems to give me Black frames

This is strange. First time using FCX and ive imported my footage into FCX transcoded it, keyed it, and then during play back there seems to be black frames appearing during a shot without any cuts. I just exported it and the black frames appear as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OSX-10.8.4

CPU: 2.7
RAM: 16gb
ScratchDisk: 6tb Thunderbolt Raid

Footage is 4k @ 29.97 at Redcode 10:1

Yeah I hit this problem.

Have you Optimized the Red clips yet? If not, you do need to optimize them before you can key. Otherwise, things do get screwed up and look funky while not keying correctly.

The good thing is that if you require to make changes later to the red raw footage, you can always optimize again and you won't loose the keying work you've done.

Right click on your clip or multiple clips, and select transcode media, optimized media. It will create Pro Res files.

Then within your preference pane, under playback, select use original or optimized media.

You could also generate proxy media (which is what I do if need be) and it will be significantly faster during the transcode.

Thats what I thought, but its greyed out, I cant select optimized media

Edit:
I just went into the events folder and deleted the proxies and the Transcode files. I think this is what the solution would be, but should I remove the FX as well?

The effects will stay there, so no need to delete. It easily switches back and forth between optimized, proxy and original media.

Yes, transcode the clips in the Event Library not in the Storyline/Timeline. You may need to drop a fresh optimized version of the clip back into the timeline (instead of using the one that gave you problems and has the key effect in it prior to optimizing). Can't remember if the old clip causes problems or get's recognized with keys.

You will need to erase your timeline and start fresh for this to work. I just re-rendered with the FX shots and key's and still had this issue. I have wiped the timeline, the events folder and I am starting fresh. Here goes nothing :/

I am running into the black frame issue also. To my knowledge, "Create Optimized Media" has nothing to do with the fact that the PROXY files have black frames in them. The proxy files and the optimized files create two completely different Apple Pro Res files, one much high resolution than the other. So, still no solution here unless I am missing something.

Sounds to me like, somehow, you might have placed the clips on to the timeline thinking they were butted up against each other but might have inadvertently put tiny gaps between them. Or somehow introduced these gaps using the Place tool? The fact that they are there during playback seems like a clue to something.

If you greatly expand the timeline (press command+ a few times), do you see the black frames indicated in the timeline?

Also - why are you not running 10.0.9?
