4K files for a Samsung UHD tv… How to

The shop just got in the big 85" Samsung S9 UHD. This monster is a 4k (3840) television, and plays UHD files, as well as inputs of all stuff… but looking into the manual, it says

S4UD files, with H.264 codec and fileextention .s4ud….. I've never heard of it, nor can I google it… so how can we make files, copy them to usb-sticks and play on this TV ???

best - for playback: REDRay (encode to .red files) , but there's also the AJA KiProQuad (ProRes4444) and Blackmagic (H264 _ MPG4 files) makes a playback box too. And if you have a RED Rocket - you can connect it directly to playback via REDCineX or PP/FCPX, etc (that uses the Rocket)

It looks like it is a TS file in the manual. Maybe just renamed to a .S4UD file. Online research indicates to create a TS file you need a encoded video mpeg file in H.264 and a AC3 audio file multiplexed into a TS file. Does this make sense to anyone?

Yes. We used to have to encode .ts files for playback on BrightSign/ROKU devices for installation work, etc. These also use USB or SDHC cards for storage. Using Compressor (assuming Apple), load your file and select Settings -> Apple -> MPEG Files -> MPEG-2 Transport stream. That will output a file with the suffix .m2t which you can rename .ts, or possibly .s4ud in your case. My understanding is that, technically, there is no such thing as an mp4 transport stream; mp4 is a compression format. Not sure if this will work, of course, but might be worth a try. I think you can use MPEG Streamclip or ffmpeg as an alternative.

On to the debate. Here are some tough facts to play with:

a- RED has stopped delivering RED RAY for some reason: it is more than 6 weeks we are waiting for it. No dates have been announced.
b- AJA KiProQuad 4K is the only alternative option I can consider, as we have an approaching market (MIP COM) where we need a light solution to play several 4K trailers to a SAMSUNG 65'' 4K screen
we just bought.

I called the technical assistance of SAMSUNG: of course, they will not let you encode in their own secret format .S4ud, and nothing else could play 4K from a USB3 on their screen.

So... if any one has done some trouble shooting tests, I am eager to hear about them:

a- Can you ingest a AppleCodec file on the AJA ?
b- can you cheat the machine and add with Compressor a .S4ud extension, and have it to work ?
c- and, last but not least, can anyone rent us a RED RAY in Europe for the period Oct 1st-10th ?
