  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4K FEST - High Resolution Film Festival - Looking for submissions!

Tonaci and Justin, I applaud your idea! I saw the Barco 4K demo'd on an 80 ft wide screen in Galveston this year, and it was stunning. Held its own against Imax 15 perf 70mm. My major recommendation is to find the biggest screen possible to present this on....the difference betw 2K and 4K isn't really noticeable until you get to around 45 or 50 ft wide, minimum. Let me know if I can help find a venue, I know many of the theaters in LA.

So, to submit we have to upload our film to vimeo, exposing it to public access? We're currently smack-dab in the middle of our festival run and don't want to post the film online until perhaps a later time. Also, we aquired at 4K but our mastering was to a 2K DCP. Would we be required to bear the cost of a remaster session to go out to 4K?

Awesome! Still grading a short, but hopefully I can finish and submit it in time!

Does this festival qualify for IMDB? They'll put up things that have been submitted to festivals; any reason why this wouldn't?

Thanks!

Hi Chris, for people in your situation you can just submit all the info and leave the Vimeo URL blank. Just give us a link to a .mov file or send us a screener DVD so we have something for our judges to view. I will update our submissions page to make this clearer.

We have grants available for filmmakers who don't have the resources to remaster their own films in 4k. Assimilate is being very generous in helping us with that.

That is a good question Cory. I will have to look into that.

remember you can have private videos with passwords on vimeo (won't display in search/profile/etc, direct link only + password to watch)

Are you interested in setting up screenings internationally? There's a great arthouse screen in Melbourne that just bought a Barco 4K...

We are definitely interested in doing international screenings! We are actually doing a 4k Fest demo with Barco at CineEurope in Amsterdam next Tuesday. Send me an email at info@4kfest.com if you want to pursue it.

CineEurope Amsterdam

CineEurope Amsterdam

Anyone coming to CineEurope in Amsterdam next Tuesday should stop by the Barco booth to see our 4k Fest demo. We will be screening Scott Weintrob's "Two Legged Rat Bastards" along with some Epic footage from Tom Lowe and some gorgeous aerial footage.

I will post exact times as soon as we have them.

We will be in Amsterdam this coming Sun - Tues if any redusers want to meet up!
