4K Editing Laptop

Hi there,

I need a new laptop for working outside the office with 4K RED footage and am wondering what would be the required spec for smooth playback at 1/2 resolution?

My previously laptop (i7 2.4 Quad/16GB DDR3/NVIDIA 2GB) was good for 1/4, which was okay but not ideal. I am wondering how much more I would have to spend to get good results at 1/2?

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated...

i just use a red rocket x TB box on my year old rmbp personally but you can also build a beefy machine to do without the rocket x... some good options out there i posted one from titan and media workstations before...

Clevo has new Skylake models out with the Desktop 6700K cpu versus mobile cpu's. They take far more power so battery life is shorter but the processing difference between desktop and mobile is significant. Those shells also have DDR4 max at 64GB and 2x m.2 ports / 2x 2.5 bays for up to 4 internal SSD's/HDD's. Clevo has added Thunderbolt/USB3.1 ports to new versions of these shells. There are many Clevo resellers available depending on what region/country you are in.
