  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4K EDIT in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5

Awesome footage, Tom- thanks for the tour!

Also, just curious, but how are you offloading your Redmags and how long would it take to transfer 128GB of 4K R3Ds until they are finished conforming in your timeline?

I typically get 2x realtime transfer times when offloading 128GB RedMag's to a 4 drive RAID over ESATA using an off-the-shelf Sony Vaio laptop as a DMT station. 50 min of Red One 4K footage would transfer in 25 min.

No conform is needed to edit in Premiere. Just drop the R3D's right into a bin. You could edit right off a RedMag if you wanted to.

As Paul notes, conforming is a thing of the past with Premiere. . . you just input your R3D into a bin and away you go. No rendering ever required. Amazing. Adobe must be selling a lot of this one. Or, at least, I hope so.

Hey guys, how many dissolve layers can your systems manage?
Im thinking of building a rig, p67t board with a 580, SAS storage etc.

The new SBe processers look sweet though.

Really looking forward to seeing more of your work Tom.

Thanks in advance!

Hey, Just wanted to let others know, that my little toshiba Qosmio X775 is doing a basic 5k footage edit in a 5k timeline at 1/4th playback resolution to a 1080 TV(makeshift monitor :P) in cs 5.5.1...its a fricken laptop...with an i7 chip, a GTX 560m (hacked to work with Mercury engine (really safe easy to do)) with only 8 gigs of ram...Playback is very smooth, not even a hiccup when cross fading... Just some more encouragement for those worried about editing 5k footage (or scarlet 3k footage) on a lower budget PC.

:hurray:

That was great Tom, thanks. Have been holding off to choose my workflow system until my Epic arrives. Was hoping to stay with FCP, but who knows where they are going and if we'll ever be able to work directly with r3d's. Nice to know CS5.5 is an option that can.

thx tom i tested RAW editing yesterday for the first time its much more powerful than i expected =)
do you get realtime dissolves in 4K/5K ?

I think so. it's a little slow unless you render the files, but im happy to do it. more powerful computers are coming.

Hi Tom,

I'm a little confused, in your video clip you refer to your 4K timeline and also to a "1080P" timeline, soooo, are these results we are seeing with a 1080P timeline containing 4K and DPX files or is the timeline a full RED 4K?

I just want to be clear about what we are seeing, and what one might expect from a similar system.

thanks

Paul
