  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4k downscale 2k 3k 1k in 4:4:4:4 ?

But i am wondering if it is possible with the scarlet or epic to get 5k to 2k mpeg2 4:2:2 ,if it is a least possible ?

I don't believe it is possible without additional hardware.
The RedOne can record H.264 proxies, and there was mention of a 'proxy module' for the Epic/Scarlet at one point - but I think it may have been dropped.
Personally I would like to see a ProRes/DnxHD module at some point that would allow for the simultaneous recoding of 2K and/or 1080P files.

But I don't believe it is possible via firmware only - the fact that RED suggested a 'proxy module' in the past makes me think additional boards and hardware are needed.

The Scarlet-X debayers the 4K RAW image into 1080p RGB 4:4:4 in real time for monitoring. What you want though is to use REDCode RGB to encode that existing signal. No the Scarlet-X does not have enough flexibility to encode the internally debayered 1080p RGB 4:4:4 signal into a wavelet compressed RGB image. It was originally in the specs for Epic but then was taken off the table since it would probably have involved too many compromises. Also RAW is not non-linear it is LINEAR. Video people have been abusing the word "linear" for years... because they're idiots. :D There I've said it. I've wanted to say it for years haha.

Some job required a quick compression, but I ll never buy a C300 !First the camera is ugly and my work need a lot more resolution .The scarlet is the perfect tool for my need . I will buy a sound pix recorder too for the job wich required a quick compression .

Problem solved!
