  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4K apple display

3. No video card currently supports resolutions above 2560 x 1600 at this time, even ultra high end cards. Would at least require a card firmware update - if it is not a current hardware limitation. Card would also have to support Displayport 1.2, or HDMI 1.4.

You are totally wrong on this on multiple levels. I have seen video cards that were made 8 years ago which support 3840x2400 with no issues (just at lower refresh rates). Even in the BIOS (during POST, etc..) I have seen lots of video cards properly scale to 3840x2400 with no issue and no need for flashing the BIOS.

Even without display port the display could be driven via 2xdual-link DVI connections like I drive my IBM T221 display which is capable of 3840x2400@48Hz (it can and will take a 60Hz input which I can drive with 2xdual link DVI without any problems but internal refresh rate is 48Hz so I run it at that).

With display port 1.2 you can definitely run a 4k monitor.

I have ran 3840x2400 on an old 6800GT (AGP card even). The only thing preventing 4K panel is the manufacturer's as likely they believe they wont sell well.
