Hey Guys,

I have a video coming up I'd like to shoot with B18 and rough cut on a FCP system and then color with a DaVinci or similar system.

We are finishing ultimately for broadcast, so SD. I'd like a HD copy for my reel etc. but its not necessary.

When shooting on set I'd like to be in 4k Anamorphic so that the viewfinder/lcd/monitor show the correct aspect ratio and the producers aren't freaking out.

This route would leave us with a 4k file in 1.2:1. I'm wondering if right off the bat we do a destretch and transcode to 16x9 ProRES, pre matted for editorial and color correct, if that will be easier to deal with.

What is the best way to generate a 16x9 (1080p and destretched) copy of all of the footage?

Thanks,

Matt

PS: it might just be easier to pay someone to do this for us

RedRushes will do the conversion to PR422 QTs for you, with of course a route back to the original R3Ds for a conform (via Monkey Extract or Crimson) if you decide you want to go that route later in the day.

Cheers,
Dom.

You won't be able to conform via crimson workflow with Build 18 anamorphic cause the R3D's won't open in REDCINE. I like to transcode to ProRes using the 2xfit width, add an _H.mov to the end of each clip through "A Better Finder Renamer" and send the EDL to Color. Works well for most short plays. However, it sounds like you are conforming in a DaVinci so you will need to ask your post house how they prefer to handle the conform back to the DPX or native R3D's.
