  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4k / 2k PRO RES / DNxHD MODULE - who wants one.

Jarred,
I can wait on a Red solution! Especially since I am waiting on the Scarlet to use it with.:wink5:

Nice to know that we get Redcolor 3 and Redgamma 3 next week!

David

Thanks Jarred, reminds me of one more thing to save money for...

You guys sure are making it more and more difficult for us to adhere to the vow we made late last year of not talking about products till they are ready to be released :)

heh heh heh....

until then.. there are a handful of great 3rd party products that create nice Pro-Res and DNXhd files that bolt to the back of the camera that let you record both RGB and your 5K raw files. The "record friendly" feed will be coming in not the build that is coming next week, but the build after.

MY JOB IS DONE!!!!!!!

This makes me feel like a day before my 10th birthday! Ready to pop with happiness.

time to bring out the big smile! (only seen at the EPIC launch & the Playback release)

Just promise me you keep it small, and it runs off the REDVOLT in the side grip,
(better yet no module at all and its a new board in the EPIC) hehehehehe... Yes I already know what youll say about that last request. . :)

David I think you are limiting what the proxy module will do for you. For me the wireless transmission to ipads and iphones is at least half the value. All with no power or in and out cables.

Redmote pro + wireless proxy = the second coming of the redvolution.

Don't think they aren't working on this. I expect an announcement once all the Epics and scarlets are out the door. Maybe July this year.

Am I missing something.

I think I missed the nuance in Jarred's response.

How am I missing the interpretation that everyone else seems to be "getting".

David

Thanks for the heads up Jarred. If I am reading the post correctly then a Pro Res or "video" record module is coming. While a 4K pro res record mode could be handy for some workflows the real gold is in a 1080P record. This is the feature that gives the camera the ability to match the Alexa ease of workflow. Also for my TVC work the 1080 video files go straight to editorial and they are cutting as soon as they wish and matching back to R3D should be a simple task.
I have called this module a video module as opposed to a Pro Res module because while Pro Res is a widely accepted quality format now it will be replaced with better performing codecs. For obsolete to be obsolete the module would need to be updatable with new codecs.
Would also love to see the ability to apply different processing to the video files ie log, 709, RG3, user adjustable etc.

Thanks Red for listening

A 1080p R3D or even RGB from the full frame would be bloody fantastic with no sensor size cropping the field of view. Full debayer in camera etc...yep...nice.

But i'm thinking it may be a more more 'open' output of 1080p from the cameras SDI showing far far better DR on the monitoring path (like Alexa). This is kinda were the next build is heading with in camera looks and Graeme's new colour/gamma in my opinion, and would make sense with RED pushing 3rd party SDI recorders. But who knows...oh the tease:)

In other words... It's happening! In what form I wouldn't have a clue.

I wonder "what" is happening, because that is Jarred's good old "heh, heh, heh" vagueness....

I still think an inexpensive post solution would beat a "camera module" but hey, that's just me it seems. The way I read it was:

"you guys are close, but it's actually a better idea."

:)

Thanks for the interpretation Mark!

David

Since ProRes module should do full quality debayer + scale in RT, it would make sense to be able to use same power strapped to the computer and have a portable RedRocket card. Instead of making separate devices, why not just make one multifunctional with additional computer dock instead...

Don't get too excited.. You are not going to see anything in this arena before (or during NAB). We are focused on successfully building our manufacturing foundation right now... some stuff had to take a back seat.

Ha ha you deserve to use the sad face, but you have your camera and all your bits already.. For a lot of people us getting all manufacturing hands on deck to get out go backorder gives them big smiley faces :)

Lots of cool stuff coming guys.. we just aren't talking about it a year before it's ready anymore. The competition started actually listening to us :)
