Everytime I power up the camera, I have to go into sound settings to CHECK the 48v mic setting to "turn" on the mic (no external power). Why is that? it saves the setting for the sound being turned on at port 1, but not the 48v.. can I solve this somehow?

This is apparently the way Red wanted the camera to work all along, but untill b16 it didn't. I assume they are worried that someone might forget that the phantom power is turned on and damage something.

It is to me a bit of a bother. The other day, I was shooting a live event and one of my cameras came up and wouldn't let me into the system menu. By the time I finished trying to get in and gave up and rebooted the camera, I had missed part of the event.

What I would like to see, is a setting that lets you decide whether or not to reset phantom power automatically on startup. Then you could have your cake and eat it too.

Hardware controls for audio were definitely one of the features missed off RED unfortunately, despite loads of posts. :-(

This is something we can take a look at after the majority of cameras have the upgraded audio board.

Please do, this is very annoying. Every time you change a battery you have too remember to turn the 48 volt box back on, or no audio. Not sure why this would ever be considered a good idea.

Related to this issue, I was wondering if anyone is experiencing a ton of static when using the 48v phantom power. I have two lav mics, one that requires phantom power and another that doesn't, and I'm getting a TON of static from the phantom one. I know it's not the mic because it works fine on my DVX100. Any ideas?

If you received your camera prior to Sept 15, you will have the original revision audio board.

Its not recommended to use +48V Phantom Power from that audio board as the noise level is higher than desired.

Stuart, I use phantom power on both my cameras, so to have the option to leave phantom power on when we reboot is highly desirable--just voicing my support. Cheers.

I agree. Yes please change this annoying feature. It is very easy to loose audio by mistake when powercycling.
