I just did a shoot with the EDIROL - R44. I recommend it. Excellent quality. They make a TC version too.

That is actually not accurate, there is no R-44 with timecode. The product you are thinking of is the the R-4 Pro (easy to get confused) which is bulkier and more expensive, and has slightly different functionality.
