4 Bay Simultaneous RED Brick Charger

Thanks for the heads-up mate, but I really wish I hadn't of written that on a public forum now!...

well, if this can make you feel better actually you're not the first one, i've seen a post identical to yours some time ago.
The guy was suggesting people to buy always more than 2 RED bricks so that when you're shooting you can put another brick in charge so that the charger does not fall over!

Two weeks, three months, thanks for the support guys, but we've had ours since MARCH!!

Oh dear...

Still, at least I didn't decide to order a dummy battery to balance it out - that makes me feel better!

BTW Dylan, is that an entry requirement for the CSC - "Can figure out how to use a battery charger in less than three weeks"?! Maybe that's why I haven't had the phonecall yet... (That and the fact I'm not Canadian!)

To my knowledge, other than the RED charger this is the only unit that communicates status info with the RED battery, which means that it can charge more efficiently and to a higher capacity. And it can charge four RED bricks simultaneously in about four hours. Very impressive.

You guys talking about the swing arm I drilled holes through to fix the charger to a sheet of ply...?

There was someone saying a while back it was much faster charging 3 batteries than 4....on the idx I think.
I can understand if you have lots of Red cameras going off (or accessories), then a 4 battery charger is important but I would of thought what was more important was to have a backup solution incase your 4x charger blew-up.
If it fails ! guess that means reverting back to your trusty old Red charger. That's fine, but what's the problems with buying just a second Red charger for $450 (not $1300).
This also gives you redundancy which you should alway have and I'm guessing there wouldn't be too much in the time it takes to charge 4x batteries vs 2x2 batteries.

It would also allow using one as charger and one as AC supply

No, just "mason" like rituals. We leave the gear testing up to the AC's.

...and the CSC welcomes anyone and everyone as an associate member! Even blokes who can't figure out how to make a charger stand up!

<wipes brow>Phew, that was a close one. Practicing my masonic goat-head dance now!...

Happy shooting mate!
Dom.

Just depends on how many batteries you want to charge and how fast. Four bricks in four hours is pretty nice.

I'd have thought 4 bricks in 4 hours is about what you get with 2 x red chargers, with the benefit of having 2 fully charged batteries after only 2 or so hours, not 4 half-charged ones.

Indeed - if you have 3 batteries they can be charged at up to 3A each, if you attach 4 batteries, this drops to about 2.4A. Basically, when on set, only put on 3 batteries (but one would be on the camera anyways), if you get some sleep in your hotel room, put on all 4 and sleep tight.

If you want to go really cheap, try this one here: http://www.globalmediapro.com/dp/A012B0/Globalmediapro-SCA4S-4-channel-Charger-AC-Adaptor/

I have no experience with this charger whatsover, I bit the bullet and went for the IDX luxury. While I don't mind using cheap batteries, I do not want them to get ruined by a substandard charger. YMWV.
