4-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer, Jockey Motion & it also upgrades Ronin & Ronin M to 4-Axis

The moment we have been waiting for, a 4-axis gimbal stabilizer that addresses the bouncing issue from my Ronin 3-Axis gimbal and its over weight problem. Now I don't have to worry about treading heel to toe when I walk. The Jockey comes ALL-IN-ONE as a stand alone 4-Axis gimbal or it can mount on my Ronin/Ronin M and turn it into 4-axis. It is integrated with a new support rig that greatly reduces the weight of a fully geared Ronin/Red. The rig works very different than Easy Rig or Ready Rig, it's called the Jockey Support Rig. It's about 10 times smaller, lighter, less cumbersome to use and to carry. This thing straps to my hip instead of being on the shoulder causing strain on my back. I can pivot my shot on the holster or draw the Ronin out anytime when I am ready to shoot. This thing cuts a 15 pound Ronin/Red outfit to less than 3 pounds.

Thats interesting and looks incredibly promising. How much of a limiting factor is it to go under slung? I've always preferred under slung rather than over and had a product that added the ronin to a steadicam arm. It worked ok, but the RED can get cumbersome with a vmount over slung. I noticed you had a picture of it but I didnt see any footage of that. Congrats on this product kickoff! Really considering this as an option! This paired with an exo I think could be a really great thing!

The motor cycle scene was shot underslung. It shoots the same either on top or on bottom. When shooting in underslung position, you can adjust the angle of the arms, see how these arms can be adjusted in the video where it shows 3 windows. This way the Red won't be sitting too low. You need to get the pro package that comes with the Jockey Rig to relief weight, underslung extension bracket and quick release for the Ronin.

If this could accept a Freefly Toad for mounting my M15, then I would be very tempted.

I don't have a Freefly Toad here but check to see if you can bolt a Manfrotto male quick release plate to where the handle connects by removing the M15 handle. Next you get the AllSteady $999 version or the $1295 which comes with the female quick release plate that is Manfrotto compatible.

That's great to hear. I think it could be made to work with minimal adaptors.

For your reference, the Toad is this:

It's very simple to attach to whatever. It just uses 4x M3 screws to bolt onto things and has both thru-hole and tapped holes to choose from.

This looks like a good solution.

Thanks for the reply Ed! Is there a benefit to it being over slung vs under slung? And how do you feel it would pair with an exo?

but how do you tilt when in the jockey is in harness? (talking about follow mode on ronin) and how do you put it down on the floor between takes?

The M15 is rather large gimbal. It may require the HEAVY DUTY PACKAGE-A with Manfrotto quick release adapter. This package is design for large setup. Handles are included, not shown on picture.

I went on Turboace last kickstarter. Had some problems with mine finally managed to get to send it back to be looked at (only got contact by them after I also asked for a possible upgrade in radio transmitter). Sent it back got the upgrade (paid $600 for that on top). They never even bothered to look at the problem. Never heard from them again. That gimbal has been on the shelf ever since and ended up costing $6500 with upgrade and shipping costs. Not saying their things aren't working, just saying I had the worst support ever with this company.

The Jockey allows you to tilt and pan while the Cone Adjustment Shaft is in the holster. This is accomplished by adjusting the cone upwards which creats a large gap between the holster while the shaft is still anchored at the bottom of the holster. See photo. In between takes, you can either adjust the Adjustment Cone down to close the gap, thereby locking the Jockey to its holster or you can set it down using the handles as 2 legs and the Adjustment Cone as the 3rd leg. The photo only shows the shaft without the cone but it will work the same with or without it.

The prove on good support is for anyone to pickup the phone and call Turbo Ace tomorrow at 9am Pacific time. It is probably the only gimbal company that answers a tech support call. Not even DJI would answer their phone, try it then pick up the phone and call Turbo Ace at 714-938-0189 tell the receptionist, you have a AllSteady gimbal and you want to speak to a technician. I would say within 2 calls you will get through since the techs may be on the phone when you call. There is obviously a communication issue in your case and I do believe you are telling the truth. Did we missed your call? if so I would like to know who took the call. I seat next to a tech and hear him helping customers daily and that I swear is the truth. You may have an unsolved issue but we do take pride in our service.

This would be the perfect companion for the exoskeleton. You're just adding a fourth axis, still has handles and can be operated exactly the same way as a regular gimbal. I wouldn't use the waist belt that they offer, the Exo would be better for booming up-and-down... For running I would not use anything.

This confuses me a little… the M15 weighs half of what the Ronin does, so wouldn't that mean that if it can handle the Ronin, then it can handle the M15?

Seems like a better way to film runners over an obstacle course is to use a drone. These wacky, complex gimbal systems look like a solution looking for a problem

So sorry for the confusion. You are correct. To fit the M15, you need to attach a Manfrotto quick release plate on top of the M15 pan motor and remove the handle. Choose Package-A which has the Manfrotto quick release adapter.

You will be correct for wide shots but the drone has limitation. It can not film close up and it can not shoot 100 to 200mm without introducing violent shakes which is what it needs to obtain these shots accomplished with a Jockey with the a 50mm. We do manufature many types of drones. In many incidence such as this one, the drones were not allowed due to safety. Each device has its use and we design this device for situation our drones can't get to.

Good observation by Carey, the Jockey can be mounted on the EXO by adding a Manfrotto 500 series quick release plate. Package-A of the Jockey system comes with Manfrotto compatible adapter which can clamp on a Manfrotto quick release on the EXO base plate. As for the waist belt, it is designed for medium weight gear, not for super heavy setup like the EXO. So I agree with Carey that if you have a fully setup Red, you should go with the EXO and if you occasionally shoot with medium weight gear, the belt will be extremely portable and not tie you down.

200mm lens on a gimbal . . . please post that footage when able ;-)

Filmpower Inc. will release Nebula4200 5-axis-gimbal, which can be effectively counteract the up and down shaking.
