Is the promised 4.5K feature for 2.40 aspect planned for build 17, or for some future date?

A future build... hopefully 18. 4.5K is a gift we are working on.

Great Jim, looking forward to it. Will patiently wait... 4K crop will do for now :)

since. Most of my shooting is scope I am really looking forward to 4.5 k a huge thank you for the team for this one...

Sorry if my question is silly.. but looking at the RED's entire sensor by naked eye.. it looks shaped more like a 16:9 than 2:40:1 So how is 4.5k a full frame? Will it just gain more from the sides and then crop the top and bottom?

4.5k

4.5k

4.5K means its captured directly in a 2.40:1 aspect, as opposed to a 1.2:1 anamorphic concept.

Yes, but is it using the entire surface of the sensor? or is some area of top and bottom cropped out? Just asking cos the sensor when you take off the lens and look at it, i shaped a bit more like a 16:9..

I'm sure it will be cropped. But it will use the full width of the sensor.

i dont think there is the capability to do full 16:9 at 4.5K.

If you look at the number of pixels, 4.5K at 2.40:1 is actually less than 4K at 16:9. So it isnt a suprise that this is possible as the throughput doesn't get any greater, you're just redistributing the pixels to the side and taking them off the bottom. It should be less taxing on the system to do 4.5K than it currently is to do 4K 16:9.

However 4.5K at 16:9 would be a real test as they would need more processing/bandwidth to achieve it. I sure wouldn't rule it out, they've found ways to do many things in the past.

Cinemano, the sensor is 16:9.

The announced 4.5K mode was to be cropped. And with the numbers work out, it was actually something like 4480 pixels wide.
